Default controlling subs with stock head unit

hey guys whats up

I'm still rolling with my stock 6-disc changer, and I love the changer and I would prefer not to go aftermarket for the head unit. My question is whether the subs will still sound okay with the SSP and everything. Anyone have the stock HU and some subs?? How does it sound???

thanks

i used to have the stock headunit and subs and it sucked a$s. i had no way of controlling the subs without turning down the bass of my speakers..... then i sounded worse. i ended up gettin an aftermarket headunit.

you do have this option tho. if u buy an audiobahn amp, there is a connection for a bass level controller. just plug it and run that to the front under your dash and controll the bass with that ****.

i still have my stock head unit and i have subs hooked up. i have a bazooka nos-8 bass tube and a 300 watt amp. it sounds awesome. i dont kno what the guy above is talkin about. the factory head unit is rated at 180 watts so thats alot of power. most aftermarket are like 50x4 or somethin like that. all u need is a RCA converter and tap into some wires on the stock harness. good luck with it.

The subs wll sound ok, unless you turn the system up, because the stereo has built in contollers that decrease bass levels once you pass a certain volume level. This is so the speakers still sound clear, which always means that your subs are losing their signal at high volumes. Plus line out converters are known for having noise issues.

I just use the SSP button and I also change the radio typr(xA, xB, or tC) , because I to like the stock unit. the xB setting along with hear sounds pretty good on mine.

I too have the stock 6-disc changer. My first upgrades are shown in this link. I haven't taken pictures yet because I just got it installed today, but I now have a 10" MTX sub mounted in a custom sealed inclosure that fits in the rear underneath the storage compartment lid. https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=68068.

I am very happy with the sound and my buddy that helped with all my upgrades who is a professional installer was impressed with the sub. Since I kept the fade between the front and rear speakers at "0", we wired the front and rear speakers to the front channels on the amp. The rear two channels are bridged to power the sub. I can control the sub output with the bass control and the fader. Just fade more to the front to tone down the sub. I also have the gain on the rear channel set where it isn't overpowering. I listen to all types of music. The sub adds just enough bass to classic rock and country and really hits hard on today's hip hop and modern rock tracks that are bass heavy.

BTW, all of my upgrades have set me back $400 from ebay...less than the cost of the Scion Bazooka sub that I almost purchased when I bought the car!!! I use the "xB" setting and "feel" on the SSP. I'll take pictures of the sub tomorrow and post them here.

This is going to be my first REAL experience with car audio, and I have some friends helping me out but still...any help you could give me would be awesome

The pre amp output adapter I used plugs into the factory speaker wiring. The front dash and door speakers are wired together from the factory. We attached the front and rear "+" wires to the front channel "+" on the amp and the front & rear "-" wires to the front channel "-" on the amp. My Pioneer amp is stable to 2 ohms when two pair of 4 ohm speakers are wired together.

You can add a sub and an amp and keep your stock hu without a lot of problems. I added a 4 channel amp to run the front and rear speakers and a 2 channel amp to run the sub. The amps are under one seat and the sub is under the other. You can control the sub and the speakers by setting the gain on the amp where you want it. I don't even have the gains halfway on the amps and I only need to take the hu volume to the mid 20's so no need to worry about it cutting the bass out. My 4 channel amp allows me to adjust the bass and treble separately to the speakers and then I can tweek it with the hu at different volumes. I also have had no problems with noise from the high level converter. Since you want to keep the changer just add the converter, an amp or two and your sub. If it is installed right I think you will be happy and you will be able to adjust it how you like.

the stock deck sound preety good and keeps that clean stock look and fit ... the stock deck has a lot of power and can run a sound system to a decent sound level ... you can find adaptor subplugs at www.norcalscion.com and on ebay at http://motors.search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZeuroQ5fwerks if you have questions you can contact them at these links ... these are designed for the best sound you can get and will not cause engine noise ! ,, not just a set of cut off rca's .. this is good stuff ......
