Default Could yall help me wire leds to the dome light please?

Hello yall. I'm really tired of paying shops to do my electrical wiring and such. I really have no idea what I'm doing though as far as wiring. I have 2 leds ready to be wired up that I have at the top of each A pillar in my xB to shine down on the dash. I really want them wired to the domelight so whenever the domelight is on, they are also on. What exactly do I do. I apologize if this has been asked/ discussed before. I've tried reading what yall are talkin about but I unfortunately cannot understand what to do. Each led has a red and black wire. Where do each of those go and do I need additional wiring since each one is only about a foot in length. I also will probably wire some more leds in the air vents down the road so if I can get the basic knowledge of electrical work I should be set and it would be awesome. I would definately have more lighting in my car done. Alright well I hope somebody can help me and I appreciate your time.
Peace

if you want to do wiring by yourself, I suggest you invest on Ohm/Volt meter. You can get it for less than $20.
red is "supposed" to be +, and black is -. But to make sure, the wire coming from a resistor is +.
on dome light, the - is the screws itself(ground). the positive is any of the 2 wires(1 for total "on", the other is door open). go test it with a meter.

you might want to look at this thread...the light works a little bit different than you might suppose. it has a variable ground that makes the lights dim. "Tomas" is on point on this...I remembered him posting the fine wiring diagram.

So is it possible to do what I wanna do? Cuz I'm not following any of this...
Sorry I have no idea what any of this is talkin about... but it's fine. If there is no other way to explain it then there is no need to help me anymore. All of this is sooo new to me.
Thanks though for your time!

You picked a topic that has been very popular lately and a few people have gotten to work but takes some effort.

Okay, forget about the what I wrote above. that is how I hooke my maplight.

heres an easy way for you.

picture is a little blurry, but I hope you can still see it.
looking at the harness wire, Blue is +, and Red is - (but be noted that the red wire also have voltage, **do NOT ground it**) see below for readings.
used a wire tap and run a wire to the place you'll put the LED. + of your LED to Blue(+), and - of LED to Red wire.***considering your LED has a built in resistor***
My light(CCFL) lit up when door is open. when armed and disarmed the alarm.

Findings with volt meter:
Blue/y + Red/y- : volt meter reading is 11.11 volts
blue/y + screw ground volt meter reading is 11.11volts
red/y + screw ground volt meter reading is 0.82 volts
hope this helps.

Aiight wow that somewhat helps! Aiight so I suppose I'm gonna have to take the headliner out to do this? Oh yes... how do you hook the wires up? soldering? and easier way to do that? Aiight I think I can do this. I will probably attempt it once I get all the information I need.

3M quick connect #558

this is exactly what I used.
you can get this or similar on any car parts store.

no need to take off the headliner, just fish the wires.

Wow that's it? I really don't understand how that lil' thing works? So can connect the wires to eachother??? Could I do that to other LEDs I would want to hook up?
Oh and by the way thank you sooo much for all your help and putting up with my ignorance of all this electrical stuff.

EDIT: Oh yes btw where do I go about gettin these? Lowes, Home Depot? Pricing?

Without taking my own light down to look at it, it makes sense that the ball is part of a switch, pobably a rocker switch. is there a piece of plastic that broke off or fell? that could have released the ball you are referring to. btw, i am about a month or two behind you. i have 10 blue leds from oznium that are going in when i get time. peace.

Its hard for me to remember but if you lay the light flat down (light pointed up) The spring and ball go underneath the little switch. The ball rolls into a small groove and out which makes the "click" noise.

Yea there is a little spring that if memory serves me correctly it goes in the little hole on the switch then the ball goes on top of the spring. I think a spring from a pen would work. It may be a little long but you could probably cut it a little to get the length you need. Its worth a try
