Couple questions, bought a new HU for my xB
I just bought this particular headunit JVC KD-AVX1, reading it says to connect to the parking brake system since it will only play DVDs while in park. First how hard is this, and can anyone provide me with directions? Secondly can this be bypassed to play while car is in drive? Also which dashboard kit do you guys use?
Thanks
Nick

Purchase a Toyota wiring harness and the install will be simple as pie. You can get them from BestBuy or from Crutchfield. You basically just match the colors and connect the wires.
Im not familiar with the JVC KD-AVX1 unit but I am almost positive it can be bypast like many of the headunits. I don't think it has a gyro. Just ground the wire that leads to the parking break. (green wire I believe)

Thanks for the reply TheIcon, I have done the basics of car audio several times before, I have never had to deal with messing with the parking brake before. That is what I need to know, where exactly do I do this? Is it inside the vehicle, under the car? Under the hood?

you might need to hook that wire your going to ground out to a switch then to ground. sometimes the headunit wants to know that the e-brake has been put on physically so by throwing the switch its like pulling your e-brake
Congrats on your purchase... I am interested in the same head unit because I just purchased a JVC 9" flip down monitor from Frys's (discontinued model for $199) and wanted a matching deck.
I found this link which has a bit of info on the JVC KD-AVX1 and how to wire the parking brake.

My real goal is to get some headrest screens and let the kiddies watch it while I drive. I do not care about watching while I am driving. What I am thinking of doing is getting a switch. To make the switch work, I am guessing I would go from the correct wire of the HU to the switch then back to the wire harness? Is that the correct way of doing this? Can anyone recommend a switch that looks OEM?

So, watching a DVD, is also a bad thing, but like other bad things, I would bet, it too can be overcome.
Now, this is not to endorse said action; I am just saying it could be done.
