Tweeter built a very simple, custom fiberglass box for my little 10" sub. It follows all of the contours exactly, and leaves me lots of room to haul things around in the cargo area.. To get to the spare tire, you do have to remove the security screws on the sub, then the screws inside the box, but it seems pretty simple. I put a grill on it the other day, but haven't taken a pic of, yet.
Thought I would post this in case anyone needs an idea for something other than the standard square box.

It was Tweeter, the store. I've never had a subwoofer in a car before, and it really makes a huge difference in the sound. I have the setting all the way down to 4, because any higher and it's just overpowering.
Overall, I love the sound of the stereo system. With the manual, the Alpine receiver is user-friendly. Without it, it's hard to memorize all the weird combinations of buttons. So, I don't change the settings for different songs, even if it needs it.
The MB Quarts are a nice, mid-range speaker. The treble is turned all the way down to 2, because I guess I just don't like how the MBQ tweeters sound. I had to turn it down til the hissing-sort-of-noise went away. I would be interested to hear what it sounds like with a better pair.

After they do that, write down those settings for future reference, than tune the EQ until it sounds good to you, that's the ultimate goal.
Another thing on the bass, your head unit may have both a "bass" EQ control and a Non-fading output level control (my Kenwood does at least). Make sure your NF level is set to 0. If the bass is still really overpowering, you may want to turn down the level of your amp slightly.
Several months ago, I got into a small tiff with another member on the board over how much effect you can have on the response of a system without an outboard EQ. My spectrum analyser will back me up that by manipulating the level of my NF output, the bass, mid, and treble on my headunit, and the 60 HZ boost on my RF sub amp, I've been able to squeeze very decent sound out of stock 91 camry speakers, with the addition of tweets (with resistors) and a 12" sub. I even have settings for windows up/down.
Is it perfect, no. But anyone who has tried to replace speakers in a 91 camry can back me up that it's a _____. What is amazing is how much your sound can be improved by spending less than $1000 on car audio. You don't have to spend a fortune to make huge improvements in your sound if you know where to start.

Ask the guys at Tweeter if your model has this. Or just let me know what the model number of your set is and I'll find out for you.
I like the sub and would love to have something similar for my tC. Where is the amp mounted? Is it the Alpine 2-channel running in mono? And, if you don't mind me asking, how much was the sub enclosure? Thanks.
Very nice and clean! Thats been my major bout with my rear compartment, making work of the space with 2 10" subs. Thats an awesome idea.
BTW.. I can see your just as picky as I am... why have the rear headrests if they just block the view?

eugovector: The Alpine CDA-9827 doesn't have an equalizer, so I am doing all the settings by ear. I just went through the manual, item by item, and it sounds better to me than how Tweeter set it up.
cme42ns: The speaker set is the M B Quart Discus Line DSC-213. It would be great if I could tone the tweeters down, because if I turn up the treble, all I get is higher pitched, louder hissing.
JasonH: Yes, the subwoofer runs off of the Alpine 2-channel amp, and the system runs off of the Alpine 4-channel amp. They are mounted under the seats. I purposely chose amps that are smaller in size... the MRP-T220 and the MRP-F240. The sub enclosure was $300. They would have covered it in anything I wanted, but I just asked them to match the black plastic in texture and color.
Tiber: Actually, I took the headrests out because the seats are ALWAYS folded down. I love the roomy feel with no passenger seats, lol.
