Default In dash/flipdown monitors

SO I bought an rs3.0. I know theres tvs in the headrest...but what the heck, as the driver I want a TV too! I'd like a screen that can be seen equally well by the driver and the passenger, but not sure if a flip-down, an in dash, or a head unit that has a screen that pops up. I've looked into the reverse camera mod, and will probably do what I can to get that done.. I've seen pictures of it with a small screen sitting really low on the dash, would it be practical to have 1 screen for that, and another for dvds? Anyways, if anyone has any ideas of practicality, decent quality and price to recommend, please post!

thanks ya'll

Your looking at about 900-1500 for a indash monitor dvd player.

Depending on how you wire your reverse camera can depend on your setup. Most people use there in-dash monitor. when the car is put in reverse the monitor switches modes to the reverse camera.

Oh and be prepared for a few people to start bashing you sayig you should be watching the road and not a movie.

It is illegal to have a screen playing dvd's within the drivers view, and you will pay a heafty fine if caught. Now onto the subject at hand, I would go with a flip out or double din in dash screen. How much are you looking to spend? There are a million options to go with, anything speacial, besides a back up cam, maybe navigation or a built in hard drive? If you answer these questions we can give you a better idea on what is out there.... And yes icon let the bashing start on watching the road and not the movie, sorry man safety first. I got a kid in the back seat to worry about, so if some fool hits me cause he was watching a movie. You dont even want to know what would happen to them.

just go for the NIMAX
make a fibeglass replacement piece for your Airbag
mold in a suitable screen (size and depth are important)
use teh airbag wires and clock-spring to get pwr, gnd, vid to screen

get a vid source and enjoy the most illegal screen ever
it will play while turning (obviously won't keep picture upright)
and get loads of attention from the police!!

(a guy i knew invented this YEARS AGO(6 or 7)!!...please don't think this is an original idea....and yes it was called N-Imax)

I agree saftey first. But my arguement always is kids, adult passengers, radios, cell phones, food, etc are just as much a distraction as a DVD player could be. If you are going to have one its ok to glance at once in awhile and listen to but should primarely be used for a passenger.

Anyway I agree I say go with a double din unit. Flip outs are nice but for some reason I always invision the flip out function getting stuck (not that i have heard of this problem in large quantities) I have the Kenwood DDX7015 and love it. No complaints. cost me about $1100 over a year ago.

If the cd/dvd player has an AV in, and a feature called "rear on" then you can play movies on those screens and have the AV in (in ur case the rear view camera) displayed on the units screen. I'll do that sometimes when id rather listen to the radio rather than watch a movie, but would like something diplayed on my flipdown in the back for show (that, "hey i have a tv in my car" deal)

Any tv that is within the driver's view from the driver's seat is illegal to have anything other than still images on them.
