Default Dash speaker question

Just wondering which speakers you have in there and how well they fit. So far I've seen those pioneer 4" fit the best, however I'd like to see if some higher quality one's would fit just as well.

Infinitys will fit with a little modification. Nothing drastic.

Really? I was wanting to go with these (seeing how my deck and all other speakers are Eclipse anyways) But would hate to buy them only to find they don't fit.

Wht not just get a component system?? the added crossover will enhance the sound of the speakers and if needed, you could just make a plate for the tweeter to mount in the dash, or you could mount the tweet somewhere else..

They have the same mounting depth as the pioneers. Im not sure what the tweeter on it looks like. (If it sticks out alot or not) which could cause a little trouble with the grill that goes on top. If so you would just have to mount it underneath with a spacer possibly.. at most.

I've never seen the necessity for a component system without having an amp to power the speakers.

Yep, noticed that too. I'll just have to break out the tape and go measure those Eclipse then.

doesn't matter if you amp them or not, they're still gonna sound better than 2ways or whatever in the same price range.... granted, they would probably sound better amped than unamped, but components are an upgrade over 2ways or 3ways any day....

Last night I completed my new sound setup that included component speakers with the tweeters mounted in the dash area.

If you can afford it, this is the way to go. Having the tweeters firing up from the top of the dash really creates a prescence.

Head unit - JVC KD-AR8500 (75watts per channel) Very simple controls and great graphics. High powered head unit.

Sub- 10" DE Extreme in an underseat box from elegonics. Highly reccomended. Bass up front is the way to go.

Sub amp- DE 1500X Mono amp. Located under the drivers seat.

Front Speakers - Kenwood KFC-P605ie. Component. I cut out the orig speakers from the factory spacers and bolted the mid directly to the spacer. Tweeters in the dash using a simple plate system.

Rear Speakers - Alpine SPS 170A

There are high powered head units like this JVC out there. Unless you're going to compete, you may find these to be enough power, so you don't have to buy an amp for your speakers...

This system rocks with no loss of storage space behind the rear seat.

You know what? Screw the dash speakers. I came to this realization after going to 4 different places and all of them out of the Pioneer/Eclipse 4".

I'll just get a component set, either the one I mentioned before, or the similar 3 way one. Just depends on the price I suppose.

Keep in mind that a component set uses external crossovers. These needs to be mounted somewhere as well as additional wiring needs to be run.

I used the existing wires for the door speakers. I cut the wires to the dash speakers and used those for the door speaker leads to the crossover. I then cut the wires to the head unit and spliced wires from the stereo to the crossover. New wires that came with the speakers connected the dash speakers (tweeters) to the crossover.

It's more work, but well worth it. I highly recommend you disassemble your dash to install the crossover (zip tied inside dash) and the tweeters/plates. Theres a thread somewhere that describes how to do this.

I was going to mount the crossover on that area underneath the dash. You know that area that is covered by the plastic shield? It'd fit there, plus, easy access in the future.

Oops, In my earlier post I said "either the one I mentioned before, or the similar 3 way one. "

I meant this component set.

The best sound would probably be getting a 3-way component setup. What I was thinking of doing was getting the MB Quart 2-way 4" speakers for the front, then adding their 6.5" mid driver for the door. The 4" front speakers are actually seperates that are mounted in one chasis. The tweeter is mounted on a bridge that goes across the top. You still have to wire them seperately to the crossover. Their add a mid bass drive comes with it's own cross-over that you run before the cross-over for the 4". You guys have to understand that the mid-range dash speakers will give you much better imaging than just putting a tweeter in the dash.

Both setups on sale and will cost you about the same as the Infiniti setup you are talking about.

Good Luck!

MB quarts are nice but i'm a JL man. You can add a three peice set to the box. 650 something is the model. JL are very nice and my Mid speaker sits right in the dash spot. the 6 1/2 could go in the door and the tweeter could go on the A-pillar. Just remeber to power it with a nice power full amp so you could blast it.

Just replaced my dash speakers with some cheap $25 Scosche sc 4000. They fit perfectly. Just bend the extra 2 tabs down or take them off. Believe it or not they actually sound better than the Pioneer 4" ones do. I bought them at Meijers. Quick cheap upgrade.

For true SQL soundstage sounds you could always do what I did .. gut your airbags, mount 8" mid bass subs in the dash with 6" mids and tweeters in the A- pillars. I'm using all DLS equipment and they sound incredible .. This takes a little bit of modification though ..
