Default Distraught xB owner - sorta a long post

The following post is just of some recent happenings w/ my xB (last 3 weeks).

My partner almost got ran off the road and instead of getting head on, she accidently dropped the passenger front tire into a pothole and it bent the stock hub. Luckily for $13 she got it fixed and it didn't cause any other damage. (Stuff happens so this is no biggie to me)

I've been fighting a hissing sound w/ my stock stereo and Sirius radio (aftermarket). I've pinpointed the issue to being power related due to unplugging the Sirius although leaving it changed to aux, the hissing stops. I was informed by the service manager of the dealership I bought my xB that is is related to the ground and to take it to a stereo shop to be fixed. Whats the point of selling a 2006 xB with the auxilary port if the customer can't just use it and needs to have more done to it to sound decent? This issue has me wondering...

Backed into a parking spot yesterday at a local flea market only to find out my driver side tire was completely flat. Luckily there was a vendor there that did tires and they reinflated it. They pumped it to 75 PSI and did check the entire hub and tire for leaks and located none. Took the xB to the dealership today to get a new tire(s) since the Goodyear Eagle part was sorta worn and was given one new tire after 2 hours. Leave the dealership and my xB is driving left on its own. Turn around, another 2 or so hours, leave w/ my xB driving in a straight line. I requested two tires although since I only have 2300 miles I was told that two tires isn't needed. Also, I was informed that my old tire may just be used for a used vehicle.

Glad there is a new car warranty but the stereo thing is urking me. I've already called Scion, left my name and number having no clue if I'd ever be contacted.

Short version - aux port on 06 sounds like crap and I have to go to a stereo store, after 2300 miles tires go flat and I get one not two replaced

PS... is it the grounding kit I want to try on my xB? I'm sorta assuming it is.

I had the same problem with the aux port. The dealership is right as far as it being a ground problem. I put this in and it took care of the problem.

I'm not understanding why it is up to the owner to spend more money to be able to use the aux port while its plugged into a power source. Isn't this a flaw of Scion?

EDIT: Just chatted with Scion to find out my call to them was just feedback and I never would of been called. I've requested a "specialist" to call me back about the stereo.

hmmm ive used my iPod shiffle in the aux port and it sounds smooth...BUT i use the SIRIUS "visor" via fm modulator and sometimes its kinda hissy....well its hard to say..its not exactly a hiss but its like its coming from just the tweeter

edit - note ive never heard any weird sounds in my old corolla, so its a bit odd

yet cd play and radio dont do the same thing, but for me its not that bad so i dont even care

It seems to be less of an issue for people that are not using the cigarette lighter as a power source aka with IPods, which makes complete sense to me.

If you try a device via battery power there will probably be no sound although if you plug it into the outlet, power the item off, and unplug the power and barely plug it back in, you'll probably notice the sound I'm talking about. I did major in music in college so I'm relatively picky about the sound(s) I listen to.

75PSI? The spare tire or the stock tires? 75PSI is way too much for the Eagle LS.

Stock LS so they could do a water test on the tire and hub. Which it passed with flying colors and then lowered the PSI.

well, not sure what to say on the tires...i only drove on the stock wheels/tires for about 800 miles before i put my konig's with winter tires on. I use the aux port on occasion in my 06 (built in late Sept) and have not had any issues. I'm rather ****-retentive about sounds/noises which are not supposed to be present...and (considering the OEM nature of the pioneer system) was relatively 'quiet' actually. This was all using my Sony Ericsson Walkman Phone and/or audio CD's which are very clean recordings.

On the subject of grounds, i'm installing my sound system tomorrow.....where are people running their power wires/grounds for their amps?

Actually, the "problem" is the "foreign" component not isolating it's audio output ground sufficiently from it's power ground. This is what the external 'box' corrects by running both channels through transformers to remove the 'ground loop' problem by isolating the two chassis grounds.

This problem does not generally show up with battery powered devices or when using devices with sufficient isolation to prevent it.

(And why does the customer have to 'fix' the problem, not Toyota? Their view is the head unit is not at fault, the customer supplied and connected device is, so the problem is originated by something external - no warranty.)

The device in the link above is an excellent solution to the ground loop problem.

Well I just spoke to a Scion representative and informed them I'm going to order a Noise filter to use w/ the auxilary port. The person I talked to was polite and understood why it was odd that a customer would need to purchase the filter in order to use the port.

I just placed the order for the PAC SNI-1/3.5 Noise Filter and hope to have it by the end of the week (if I read Crutchfields website correctly).

I appreciate the info on ordering the filter, I'm to call Scion back if it doesn't resolve the issue and they will call the dealership.
