Default DIY MP3 player to Car converter for the XB /w Pictures!!!!!

Hey everyone I decided after a lot of contemplating to go ahead and just wire up my MP3 player instead of going the FM transmitter route. This cost me less than $55.00 on ebay!

I decided that since there is a DIY for the XA and TC I would go ahead and complete it with the XB.

What you will need:

Phillips head screwdriver
Drill + Bit
Grom (or comparible) converter...The kit I bought on ebay came with all wires.

First you will need to remove the A/C ***** to expose the 2 screws you need to take off.

After you take these screws out then you will need to pop off the bottom corner on each side...if you have never take this off before then it will take some effort to get off.

After that the rest should just come right off...it might take a little wiggling since there are clips but its pretty easy.

Then just disconnect the three conections on the back of the A/C controls that are colored in red on the pictures.

After this is done just set it aside and you will need to pull out the cubby hole if you want to run the cable through there like I did. It will just pop right off on either side of it, but don't pull to hard until you disconnect the cigarette lighter and any switches you have hooked up.

You will need to unscrew the head unit where the circles are, and just above the 2 bottom circles the other ones represent where the other 2 are even though you cant see them. It will be 4 screws all together.

Next you need to connect the interface using only the one connection that is circled in the picture. (sorry my camera got blurry)

After this just put the white box for the interface behind the radio and push the head unit back against this and put back in all four screws holding this in.

Then just pull the the cable that will connect to your MP3 player down until it is laying on top of your cubby hole.

I drilled a hole in the top of the box so that I could just put the cables through this.

There you have it....now you can just connect your favorite MP3 player up and hit the CD button to listen to it.

I really hope this helps anyone looking to do this!!!

I don't understand what you do with the white connector? Whut cable do you hook up to it? or whutever, I don't understand where those RCA jacks are going to.

The RCA jacks are coming through the hole that I said I drilled in the top of that plastic box they are in (cubby hole). I'm not sure which white connector you are talking about but I am assuming the one that plugs into the back of the head unit.....it just plugs right in like is circled in the picture.

I actually thought about that but then I decided that I like it the way I have it better since you can hook up your player close the door and it is out of sight....but that is just my personal opinion.

Thanks for the write-up and pics. I did my xB with the GromAudio unit, but mine hooks up to the dock connector on the ipod. I ran mine so the ipod sits in that junk/cup holder above the glovebox. The whole thing took about 30 minutes. Don't be scared folks, it's easy to modify your Scion with good pics and write-ups like you see here.

I have an Ipod. Bought a new 08 HU on Ebay for $100.00. Then bought Ipod/Scion Interface cable that Plugs into the back of the HU for $70.00. Complete control and I got rid of that dang button volume on my 2004 XB. I know you have MP3 and not Ipod I just wanted people to know how easy this is to do. PlugnPlay.

I think the guy sells them all the time. Its just the standard unit not the premium unit. Only diff is the display and sub outputs.. I'll get the seller if you can't find one.

Default Ipod Connection

The Sellers name is billc41. I had to contact him and he put one up within minutes with a buy it now of $70.00 including shipping. He doesn't have the Aux cable yet but says he'll have it soon. My item number was #200191235398. If its still up you can take a look. I should receive mine today. Good Luck

On the back of the HU what is the unused plug for?

The one next to the ipod2car plug?

Is that for a SAT connection?
