Alright here are some pics. I bit the bullet and put them on photosucket. This is no longer in my ride though, I opted for something much bigger and louder. Sorry the pics are GIANT. Measurements are kind of difficult because the enclosure you can build in this space is weirdly shaped.

I bought one from audioformz yesterday. I didn't really want to spend that much, though. And I REALLY wanted to keep my 12" subs, but oh well.

so greyhound you pretty much built the box inside the foam thingy then eh?

did you have any issues with mounting depth for your sub and did you have enough airspace inside the box?

I actually bought this from another guy on scion life about a year ago... he was getting rid of his xb... the design is simple and I will try to get some pics of the underside for you. The bottom did require some fiberglass to get the needed air space. Everyone who has heard this sub is pretty impressed with the sound.

the only thing with that is im trying to build a box for that space so i can still use the cargo space.

if i have the sub completely exposed like that that kinda defeats the purpose

The schocse box is real great i installed on in a freinds car he said he likes it because he can not see it and it sounds great. if you look on ebay you can find premade box for the box.

Since that pic was taken I have added a grill for the sub. I can throw pretty much anything back there without worrying about it. I also have a control on my HU to turn the sub off, I use this when I have stuff piled up in the back.

FYI our forum(eD) offers free image hosting up to like 2GB, just a little www.icixsound.com in the corner.

As for boxes that fit there, we'll be making one this weekend probably when our xB comes in.

I'm currently building a custom MDF enclosure. It will house 2x 11Kv.2, with a 9.2x in the middle. The overall dimensions are roughly 37"*18"*7". The subs will fire downward. With my design, each chamber will have an airspace of 0.52 ft3. The subs occupy 0.07 each, leaving me with a net airspace of 0.45, or just under the "ideal" airspace. If it's a problem, I will just polyfill. My objectives in designing the box were twofold. 1)I wanted to be able to use my trunk, and 2)I didn't want people (thieves) to know that I had a system. Hence, the downfiring subs, black carpet, etc. Anyway, I have some "plans" I drew up on MSPaint. If anyone is interested, PM me, and I'll email them to you. My only hesitation with the design is that the subs will fire right onto the stock cargo space/spare tire. I wonder if this will create any resonance issues. If it does, I suppose I can put some sort of sound dampener on the underside of the cargo lids. I hope this isn't threadjacking, I don't think it is, because I'm offering you my design solution, and it seems like we have the same goal in mind.

Speaking about this subwoofer issue, I've never worked with fiberglass before. How do you bond a fiberglass tub to an MDF top plate?

Will wet fiberglass bond to the MDF? What about during layering... does the wet resin/fiber layer self-adhere to the dry layer underneath it?

Sorry, I haven't looked at this thread for a while.

I actually cut out the bottom of the foam insert and glassed the inside with a .75 inch mdf top. the internal volume is roughly .45 cu. ft. Kicker claims I only needed .35.

Given the opportunity I would not have done it this way again. I ruined that foam thing and the cover too. If you have tried to price these pieces then you know that they are stupid expensive.
