I saw that one and im working on one now. I'm also modding a shuttle pc to fit in the dash. As a side note here is a xB i saw at scion exposed. Its the same monitor they used.

The note i got from the guy who did this in his xB is that it sometimes overheats and makes the touchscreen not work so i would say you need to put some vents in for it.
The monitor is sold on ebay alot for around $450.00

SWEET.
regular pc computers last about 3 years(hp,compaq,e-machine,gateway will last about a year, i work at a comp repair shop), how much longer for a in dash comp.comps over heat like hell so that comp will probably last a year and is probably slow as hell with small harddrive space(will ____ty low cost parts). but if its got a 5 year warranty why not.

pretty sweet stuff
I'm hoping to make a case that will fit the dash. It should accept a mini-atx motherboard the same one usually shipped in a shuttle/MCI or iwill computer so I plan to be able to change out the mother board as it dies. But that is a great point of concern. So i would say if your going to do it expect to replace the motherboard often. Also a good computer i found.

It looks perfect for people that want to put one under the seat. Its just a little big to fit in the dash. the height is good and the with is good but the depth make it a bad fit so it would need to go under the seat.
But here is my ultimate pick. To bad they stop shipping them until the new version.

That is sweet as H-E-double hockey sticks!!! Absolutely perfect!
This guy ain't stupid, and I bet he thought of the overheating possibility. With the A/C vent right above the system, all he'd have to do is cut a small hole in the vent line and have it directed to it...
It would be possible to do the same in an xB, but a little harder to direct some cool air to it.

would you be able to use a shuttle in the trunk and just any lcd touch screen? what kind of software do you need to get the touch screen to work? i was thinking about this, but instead of touch screen use x10 remote mouse.
Thats what Ive been looking into.. a shuttle. Or even an Abit or Aopen are doing small footprint pcs. Micro-Atx, Mini-Atx etc. Ive seen barebones over at www.directron.com that are nicely priced.
The software for the LCD is over at Xenarc as well:

Dont forget..if you look at that picture notice the top right icon.. you can control any rear view cameras you might add to your PC. For rear viewing like a webcam. Just make sure you get something that is 30FPS or more. If you wanna pay more, you can go wireless camera at 2.4 ghz, which will also alleviate any wire hiding you may need on the regular USB cams into your ride.
Dont hafta worry about letting go the steering wheel to operate a mouse and pointer. Also... you can add something like Delorme
http://www.chumbo.com/info.asp?s=019916007065&ptr=fg
and use a computer microphone to place your destination :D No need for keyboard either.
Heres the package itself http://www.delorme.com/earthmate/ everything you need is there. The only thing you would need a keyboard for is adding programs or upping MP3's to your HD (done in your driveway BTW)
Within the next 2-3 weeks this is gonna be my project. Ill keep ya posted. Who needs a CD player when ya got 100 gigs of MP3 space?

Yeah a shuttle would fit in the trunk and you could run the wire to a touch screen. As for the software the monitor comes with it for windows and linux supports it by default (RedHat9) The only concern is that you would need a ac-dc converter to power it unless your power savy and can convert the power supply over the DC. You could use the touch screen and the x10 mouse but if you dont think you need touch screen then dont buy the option it will save you $200.00.
BTW heres a good piece of software for all the pc car modders.

I saw a guy selling some of these "carputers" off ebay for reasonable prices with win 2000 and navi program... but with how bumpy and stiff xB is.... I was wondering how long these would last...
