Default Door control panel with Katzskins

I don't see a good place to post this, so started a new thread.

I had Katzskins leather seats and door panel inserts installed in my xB.

The door panel insert material is thicker than the fabric is replaces. On my driver door, the control panel kept coming up out of its hole.
The control panel is held at the front by a spring clip and simply slides out of the rear.
I determined that the Katzskins material and a seam it it were too thick to allow the spring clip to snap and hold the control panel in.
The spring clip is held by a screw and is under a plastic eye of the panel. Relocating the clip to on top of the plastic eye positioned it low enough so the panel snapped so strongly into the the door that I did not want to pry it up again.
If you do this, screw that screw tight the first time, because you will not want to pry the panel up again to tighten the screw.

They are seat covers.:

They are not pieces of leather sewed to the seat, or whatever you might think. They are seat covers that slip over the seats. But also not what you mght think.

The original fabric covering must be removed so the new covering can be tied down into the foam. The fabric is glued on and would pull the foam apart if ripped off, so it is carefully cut (shaved) off the foam. The Katzskin cover is pre-made to fit the seat, with a thin foam padding, and a cloth backing. The Katskin covers are pulled down over the seats, pulled down into the foam at creases and folds with ties, and fastened to the seat frame with hog rings etc.

They cover the seats completely, front and back. I got leather seating surfaces and the rest vinyl, and can't tell the difference between the two. The back of the rear seats is more carpet same as the original. The kit also includes panels for the four doors. Price was $1200 installed, by the same place that did the sunroof.

I hear that if you can buy the Katzkins direct and install them yourself, the kit costs less than $800. So you could just slip them on yourself and save $400 If you get stymied yoiu could take them to a local shop, assuming you had not ruined anything. After watching a pro do it on another car, I would not want to try it.

Dude they look friggin AMAZING. Do I see that you had your steering wheel covered as well?

When you say 1200 installed I am assuming that is somewhere in your home state. How can I find something like this in MD?

Just curious but if you cant tell the diff between the leather and vinyl why not go all vinyl? Wouldnt it be a lil cheaper?

I would imagine its the same type process u got done and who knows maybe they just SAY its 100% leather since you cant tell the diff anyway

Katzskins does not make steering wheel covers, as far as I know.

I don't see a way to find installers from Katzskins.com, but the shops that install Webasto sunroofs also seem to install Katzskins and you can find local Webasto dealers from http://www.webastoshowroom.com/index.html.

I think Katzskins makes all-leather seat covers, and leather-vinyl, but not all vinyl. I was not offered all-vinyl.

I think leather is more pleasant to sit on than vinyl, while leather is wasted on the backs of seats, which explains why they don't make all-vinyl and do make leather-vinyl.
