Double DIN or Not???
I received a $200 gift certificate, from my wife, from Crutchfield.com and I can't decide if I should get a double DIN radio or not? If I get a single, where can I get the "pocket" that goes below it?
The only thing that's keeping me from buying the double DIN radio is that the face doesn't come off.
Help me out peoples...thanks...

If you buy from a good place like Crutchfield they will have and maybe even supply for free the mounting kit for the single DIn unit that will amke it fit the dash and will include the "pocket" below to new radio. If a screen is what you want then you must understand that motorized screens (in a single din) tend to be weaker and have more mechanical parts to fail, than a double din. Also many single din units have a seperate brain unit (2 boxes 1 for Hu and 1 for electronics) that is normally located elsewhere in the vehicle because of limited space in a single din dash. This extra box of electronics may not be easy to bury in an xB. The one on my wifes honda single din setup would have to be mounted under the seat in the xB as it is too big to fit in the dash. A double din in the xB generally drops right in place in the factory radio location.
If having the screen in view is worrysome you could make a mask for it like I did. But it is kinda expensive (if you think the original scion Hu has any value that is):

it all depends on what you want out of a radio. if you are loking for just a good am/fm/cd/satellite radio ready radio go with a DIN radio. there are many choices on Crutchfields site plus you get a free kit and harness (hopefully you get a Metra kit). if you start looking at a radio that plays dvd's and has a screen built in, then you will have to make the big desicion. I had a JVC DIN flipout 7" screen which I liked then I wnet to a Pioneer double DIN 7" screen and love it more. the Pioneer is mounted in the factory brackets which make it more secure then a DIN radio with a kit.
like I said before, it all comes down to what you want out of a radio.
