Default Drilling under the seat?

So.....I'm mounting my amp under the passenger seat (plenty of space, and an air vent for cooling).......but I want to know if it is safe to drill into the floor underneath the carpet under that seat. I checked for any wires/cables/cords in the way.......and its all clear. The screws I will be using will be relatively short........but......I just want to be sure I'm not gonna be drilling into something important. Does anyone know about this?

Oh....I definitely plan to. I just wanted to know if there may be anything there that I'm not seeing that anyone already knows about.

Keep in mind that that air vent is also a _heat_ vent when the heater is on!

You want to divert this around your electronics!

Um......I've noticed that that air vent only sucks air.

what about mounting the amp to small piece of wood and then putting velcro on the opposite side so that you don't have to worry about drilling into the floor? maybe even put velcro on the underside of the amp.

Huh.....nevermind. The vent definitely blows. Guess I'm the one that sucks.

When I crammed my hand under the seat to check, it felt like it was sucking air..........but now that the seat is off........I can tell that it is in fact blowing air.

But that's ok.......I don't use heat all that often.......only in the wintertime for short periods. I'll just not run my amp when I'm running the heat.

And Ikon........that sounds like it might be a good idea. Thanks for the suggestion.

I mounted my amp under my seat with no problems. You'll be ok.

I just don't like the idea of drilling into the metal.......

How are you guys attaching the velcro to the carpet, and what woudl be the best way to SECURELY attach a small subwoofer box underneath the passengers front seat?

Putting holes in the metal is no big deal.. There are tons of holes in the car. Shoot there are 2 bigones in the back that are about 1 inch in diameter.

Plus, it's not like this car is a classic.

KIL....Just watchout for the wire harness that runs next to the seat rails.

One suggestion though. If you are going to mount the amp under the seat. Get a piece of wood that is 1/4" thick and screw it to the floorboard underneath the carpet, so when you mount the amp on top of the carpet you are securing the amp to a flat piece and not something that is uneven. Also it isolates the chassis of the amp away from the metal of the car and could help reduce or eliminate any alternator whine.

The only thing I'm worried about is rust to the underbody - I live in FL, land of the rain..................

Adam, when I did marks car, I built him an amp bord that amp sat on then I secured to the floor. I made it l shaped so feet from the people in the back seat wouldn't be on the amp. Bill
