Default dynmatting hatch area in xb..

Ok so i ordered the dynamat trunk kit for $60 bucks on ebay plus $10 shipping. Which parts of the trunk area should i dynmat to get the best performance? and i see that cloth plate on the hatch door that is held in by all those clips. And should i pull off panels, take out the storage compartments and do the floor, etc?

all vertical serfaces...

the floor has enough curves to stop most rattles and vibrations.

the flat vertical quarter panels, the rear hatch...all four doors...then worry about the floor...

a good tip...if you tap it with your fingers and it sounds high pitched and tinny...add sound deadening

if you tap it and get a low thud sound, worry about that later...

doing the wheel wells helps reduce road noise...
doing the doors reduces wind noise...

I was thinking about doing my hatch too, along with my front doors. Would it be better to put sound deadening on the plastic door panels, or on the metal frame of the door itself? I have the somewhat common front passenger door rattle. Getting rid of that is my main goal, as well as any rattles from the hatch caused by the bazooka.

well i was basically strictly talking about the hatch area. I already have the front doors dynamatted, the rear doors i see no need as of now. Im just trying to improve sound quality for my sub right now, and if there is any left, ill use it somewhere.

tbone, what deadening did you use and where did you put it on the front doors? Did you have that rattle in the passenger side? Thanks

Focus on large flat pieces of metal first. They are the most susceptible to vibration.

The rattle in my door seems like its in the plastic door trim, down where the pocket is. Should I put anything on that?

I'd pull the door panel off and try to figure out what's rattling. Chances are it isn't the actual door panel itself.

I've got 2 gallons and 20ft^2 of edead sitting in my living room, waiting until it's 60 degrees outside. I'll post a review once it's done, but I've heard good things about it and there's a scionlife discount on their already-low prices.

Yeah I'm not sure if its the panel itself or maybe the panel rattling against the door frame. I figure as long as there is something between them, I should be ok. I just don't know if it matters if it goes on the panel or the frame.

You're going to want to apply it to the metal panel rather than the plastic cover.

well..... i put....

3 layers in the hatch
2-3 layers on the whole floor
3 layers in the doors
2 layers across the roof

lots of work, but worth it, nice quiet ride now.

try using "r-blox" instead of dynamat, its not as good, and smells for about a week, but bang for the buck, its way worth it, 1.5 layers of r-blox probably equallt one layer of dynamat extreme, and i got 100 sq. ft. for like $150.

hmmmm, i think the 100 sq. ft. of r-blox was around 40-50 pounds, plus i have 36 sq. ft. of dynamat extreme in the car, thats prolly another 10-15?

im gonna have about another 40 sq. ft. or so when im done

about 170 sq. ft. total, and id say around 70-80 pounds total, worth it to me, cuz its a way more comfortable ride, and the car was already a slug....lol

I just got sponsered by Dynamat and will be doing the entire interior, and under the hood. I will post pics, and details in two weeks when i have it completed on how much Dynamat it took me to do the entire car and how much of a difference it makes. I will also post how much weight it adds.

I've done my entire xB with Extreme Dynamat and liquid eDead, with the exception of the roof.

Covering the floor below the spare tire & storage area mainly got rid of exhaust sound.
Doing the inside of the hatch behind the panel would be beneficial to your subwoofer.
Also roll some on the back of your license plate to remove light rattles from outside your car.

I only added 31 lbs. with all I've installed:

Dynamat Extreme = 1.80 lb. per sheet, 9 sheets installed
Extremeliner = 1.50 lb. per sheet, 3 sheets installed
1 gallon of eDead = 10 lbs. per gallon

HI have done most of my car, with Firewall and Roof coming this week. I have 150 sq. ft of extreme so far.

When I first started it was for this.

But I am changing my system design to go with something a bit more useful.
