Default An Easy Mod...Changing Climate Controls to LED, No Soldering..

Thanks to Liesjemt @ Clubxb.com

D'ya see where my screw driver is? That's the best place to tug!

The one from autolumination.com is on the right.... the stock xB one is on the left...

Finished!

Could you maybe put some explanations up for what you're doing in each step. I really want to do this too but am also wondering where to get the LEDs.

Hey, autolumination.com is a non-functioning link! i tried three or four times times to get to there web page. No luck! while searching I read what a few guys on the RX8club site. Autolumination gets some very low reviews from people that have bought from them. I guess, be careful when dealing with Autolumination, that is if you can get to their site!

Thanks for the great explantion on this mod. I can't wait to do my re-lamping to LED. Now to find a quality supplier. Any ideas?

I've seen a lot of ways to remove the center panel after the ***** and two screws are removed. I would NOT use a screw driver to pry under the edge of the housing. You could damage the plastic, and that could be a bummer! Here's how I get the panel cover off.

1. Simple put your left and right index fingers in each air-conditioning vent opening.

2. Give it a slight but firm tug. Once un-snaped, slide your fingers down the front of the panel.

3. Grab the panel with your fingers and thumbs and with a firm tug, pull. The lower mounts will pop out.

4. Lift up the lower part of the panel and it will clear the two upper most retaining barbs.

I've done this about 10 times and it works great!

I had no problems at all getting my LEDs in. I have done both methods outlined in the ClubxB.com link. You can go either way but the autolumination link saves about half an hour. try the link on the clubxb website. I live in Maryland and ordered on a thursday I got the LED's on a tues the following link. Granted the first place I ordered from was much more proffessional looking but I have not had any problems.

Default Wow its fun how things manage to come full circle!

A little clarification. The original write up on clubxB is mine (and I’m not a guy ). Here’s the link: http://www.clubxb.com/forums/f19/424...-no-soldering/
Salteen, I give more detail on exactly how to do the swap there.

I say we’ve come full circle since my write up is based on a great one by xBassist in the tech section here on ScionLife. And now others are finding ways to improve mine. ‘Gotta love this mod culture.

Now, everyone together, “No more ugly amber lights!”

Yep. Guess you didn’t read the supply list at the top of the article to closely:
“Some medium or fine grade sandpaper. (Or a nailfile for you other girls. Works great)”

I really should update my avatar. :D

There’s not as much room for ‘pics in the profiles here, check the other site. No one would mistake my box for stock! (Or me for a guy.)

Hey liesjemt , great work on that original write up! I checked it out and I did like how much brighter and spread out your end result seemed to get over the initial one pictured in this thread, so I think if I do this, I'm going to try the best of both worlds if possible. Do the easy replacement but file some of the bulb to make the light more even like you said. I don't know anything about modifying cars really, but I can read directions. It's great to other women being so hands on with the mods, keep up the good work! P.S. a bit off topic, but how'd you get your engine cover to look like a polished chrome? PM me if you'd like.

How bright are they? The normal lights did't seem bright enough for covers in my car.

Their plenty bright enough, just make sure you take off the stock yellow covers. If you put the new ones over the old ones (which I did at first) then your lights will be REALLY dark... But if you take off hte stock yellow ones, then place whatever color you get, over the lights, its plenty bright enough...

Does anyone know how to change the clock light to match the HVAC panel?
