Default Eclipse AVN 5435 vs Pioneer Avic-D1

So I have a '06 TC and am planning on purchasing a nav unit for my tc. I'm down to the Eclipse AVN 5435 and the Pioneer Avic-d1. Anybody have any opinions on which is better?

On Ebay the Eclipse is like $1500 but sometimes can get lucky at $1350 or so. And the Pioneer is around $1100 on Ebay. The main difference is that the Eclipse has DVD video playback and the Pioneer doesn't. Although you could hook up a PS2 or x-box to the Pioneer and still it would be cheaper than the Eclipse. So what do ya think?

I'm voting for the D1. It's newer, has arguably better Nav, I think it looks slightly better, but honestly the real reason is I just can't see myself watching a lot of DVDs in the car - I drive it. I'd like to listen to music and use Nav. Would my passenger like it? Possibly. It just seems like all show though.

So from the iages, the following differences are largely the hard buttons. the Eclipse has more silver bits on it too, but it looks like the Pioneer has a **** in the corner - I know how you all like *****. Other than that, the view isn't much different. Both of them give you several options for how the Nav displays... one other thing to be aware of is that since the D1 doesn't play video, you've got a DVD slot that will always have the Nav disk in it and that's fine. The Eclipse would have you switching back and forth and can't do Nav without the disk, if I recall correctly. Frankly it's a crapshoot. If you need to play movies, there is only one way to go. If you want to save some cash, get something slightly newer and possibly get live traffic over XM, the Pioneer is the only way to go. I'm sure any of us without Nav would be happy to have either of them. i'm kinda leaning toward the D1, mostly from a cost perspective - those eBay prices have gotten pretty good lately. Oh... I'm not sure on this one but I think that either one MIGHT be cable-compatible with our cars - eclipse makes a lot of gear for Toyota and our stock stereo is, of course, Pioneer. If it isn't, you'd just have to solder a harness... not too hard, but pin compatible is always the best.

For some reason I like the Pioneer better too - just not sure why. If I was ready to buy, I'd have to go to some stores that have them both and play with them a bit - it's a pretty big purchase.

If you are not into show factor then it wouldn't really matter. I would personally rather get the Eclipse since it has dvd playback like the Kenwood I have. It is really just a show factor driving around with the music videos playing.

I think they're pretty good but the newer head units have better processors (for faster routing and re-routing) and may have better views. I think the map info is probably pretty comparable, but it would be worth playing with both in person to see how you felt about the navigation views offered as well as the interface - those are the things that we aren't really talking about that probably make a fairly large difference. If I ever get ready to ACTUALLY buy one of these, I'll go play with them first.

go for the eclipse it plugs directly into the harness so there no splicing what so ever and its a neater fit from what ive seen on another tc floating around in the dc/va/md area.

I think the Pioneer is the better buy. I mean c'mon it's like $500 cheaper. I could care less about being able to play DVDs.
