Default Few Questions about Dynamat

What should I dynamat on my xB? Is there anything I can do for my windows cause the small rear ones that are in between the back windows and trunk windows are starting to become loose. Also, does anyone know people or a shop with good prices? Thanks.

Dynamat it yourself, but don't use actual Dynamat. eDead and FatMat are both great, and soooooo much cheaper. I recommend doors, hatch, floor, wheelwells.

Do it yourself, there are several threads on it, do some searching.

eDead VS1E works wonders. 70sqft should be enough for your hatch, doors, rear quarter panels, and rear floor.

try coupling that with some real sound absorption material like jute and you're in business.

I use raamat, and it works great. Don't use the original dynamat because it falls off. If you HAD to use the dynamat brand name, go with the extreme.

Jute isn't a deadener, it's actually a wave diffuser, but I digress. I posted a thread on her some time ago that gave you a budget install that works as well as the overpriced dynamat, if not better. Deadening isn't about brand name, as all of the rolled tar is made at one of two places, it's about mass loading. You want to keep the resonance and rattle at a minimum.

I wouldn't put roofing tar in my car, but here's Ricochet's post for those interested:

Yes! Dynamat sucks. The original. I haven't tried any others since the tC sub upgrade doesn't rattle my chassis, or at least I don't have the gain set high enough to. I'm just adding my two cents in on what I think about original dynamat.

Why not? It's the exact same stuff without the foil backing. It's all made out of the same factory. And I gurantee you that you'll get the same effect, actually, probably a little better, as the foil backing can adversely effect backwave, making the sound worsen. But, I digress.

Anyway, just thought I'd throw it out there for those that didn't want to spend a forutne on sound deadener, but wanted the same effect, as it's the same material.

I'll agree with you that the material is close, but I refuse to believe it's the same stuff, and that it doesn't have something different to resist heat better, resist cold better, smell better, adhere better, or perhaps most importantly... dampen sound better.

For those on a tight budget, enjoy, I was just saying I wouldn't use the stuff.

McMaster-Carr sells the same stuff that Dynamat uses without their logo. Most people I've seen on car audio forums have found alternatives to dynamat because it is readily available elsewhere.

Is it this?

Item number 9709T26?

Also, no one said alternatives aren't readily available.

Good find with McMaster. It is sound dampening stuff. Roofing tar, however, is not.

Yes. They used to carry one that was identical to regular dynamat, but I don't see it anymore. I've been told that the Polymeric Mastic is the same as Dynamat Extreme, but I haven't tried it yet.

Fatmat is the exact same thing. Dynamat makes it, again, same tar factory as the rest of it. It's identical to Dynamat extreme minus the logo. And they include a roller, cleaning solution, and utility knife.

And yes, I promise you, it's the exact same stuff without the backing. The dynamat doesn't have as bad a smell sometimes. I've smelt some that smells awful. Just depends on the run of tar they use.

Yeah I had a lousy summer once due to some stank Dynamat about 7-8 years ago. AWFUL in Las Vegas heat!
