I'm looking to replace my current flooring and was wondering if anyone else has swapped their carpeting? Specifically, I have a wheelchair ramp in the back so the rear floor is completely flat. The stuff the fab shop put down is this textured black rubber no skid pad, but it's getting scraped up and gets discolored from dirt easily. I'd like to replace it with something a little more "showy", but also durable. There are four tiedown points for the wheelchir so I'm not as worried about it sliding around. Any suggestions? I was looking at hardwood, bamboo, brushed or diomand plate metal.

i tought about doing it in mine, just in the cargo area... but it was too weird of a shape to get it perfect...
Yours might be a little easier because everything is flat..
let us know how it turns out and good luck

LOL that is a pretty cool idea. So you don't waste a lot of money in case you dont like the outlook - start off with very cheap wood - the type that you can get @ ikea for like 50 cents a square foot. that way you can have like a "practice" setup to see where you need to be extra careful, etc. then if you like that setup, get a nicer wood to setup on.
just an idea,

Nice pics morningman, and nice audio setup as well. I don't think I'll have the uneven flooring problem. To put things in perspective, here's what I'm looking to cover.

The IKEA thing might not be a bad idea, I think I've got a few square feet to cover back there and a template would be nice. Just not sure how I'm going to work out the bend in the middle yet, maybe a routered transition strip.

that shoul be easy i would proably buil a false floor out of atleast 1/2" MDF and the laying the hardwood on top of that shouldnt be to complicated
and thanks for the compliments
im actually about to take out the back seats and build a SPL comp box with atleast 4 12"s (aka im tired of people asking me for a ride)

No false floor, only dynomat on the subfloor. The entire rear floor pan was cut out and replaced with two steel plates, one for the front portion and one for the angled ramp. I am not anticipating any flex issues as the steel floor was constructed to bear the weight of a 350 lb power chair + the person's weight.
I am worried that increasing floor thickness will impede headroom clearance, so I wasn't able to go with an actual bamboo floor. I will be using a 3/8" Pergo laminate floor with a bamboo veneer. it is an engineered locking pattern so no screw or glue required, I'll just be using trim adhesive. Pics when finished, hopefully this evening in time for a show tomorrow. 13.5 sq. ft to cover.

Glad you guys like it, this was suprisingly one of the least expensive and least time consuming mods I've done, yet it made a huge visual impact. Next up, the front floorboards. I'll probably make them removable by mounting them in an aluminum frame.
