Default Which has a better SQ's JL 10w6v2 vs 8 w7

Wife is gone for two weeks so I get to play with her Xb I was wondering which produced the best SQ's JL 10w6v2 or JL 8w7 while on the subject if one has to choose to spend $3000 on a new system or a Blitz supercharger which one would all of you choose

depends on if your going ported or sealed? box size limits or space you want to devote to the system? building a f/g or mdf enclosure?

It's all in the install, both have the ability to sound good. The w7 is overpriced though.

While im on that subject, JL Audio is overpriced.

depends on the application....and sealed is the ONLY way to go for SQ i would personally go with a pair of 8w7's with 2 500/1 amps or a single 1000/1 are you having a pro install it or just a ghetto box in the trunk? do u have to cargo cover? if u do get rid of it for comp....are u doing highs too? do u have an aftermarket HU? if u do what one? does it have electronic crossover? does it have speaker delays? does it have a sub channel?

You can look at alternatives to the W7...Check out the e10a from Elemental Designs. Great SQ sub that gets pretty loud...peep the link.

Go with whats best for your needs. Are you going to use the potential of the W7. If so, it better be worth the 600-800 buck you are going to pay for that sub. Then you will have to compensate all that bass into mids and highs.

For 3k...save the money, or save some more and get the whole package. Mids, highs, multiple amps, subs, source unit, tuning, etc , etc...

The quality and construction of JL subs are second to none, but for that money you can get the same sounding sub for a fraction of the cost.

You can never ask someone what sounds best. Its your ears, not theirs. Go to a shop that sells them and have them demo both. You be the judge, you have to live with them for a long time.

that sub shouldnt set you back that much...i picked up a 10w7, a 500/1, and a 300/4 for $1050 out the door. and in a sealed box, the 10 sounds really clean. ill agree that they are overpriced, but i can slam the hell out of that sub, and i get an awful lot of good bass out of one sealed 10

plus it looks cool, cuz the screws are hidden when its mounted... , looking cool is always good.

Hey can i have a copy of your invoice , So i can send it to JL that is a great deal
the Dealer must not care. Next as for the question the w7 8" is a good speaker
i would use a single w6 my self as far as a box sealed will have the most control
play smooth and loud. ported box will play louder with less power. The rec. size for
the w6 is .65 cubic ft before displacement this box sounds good and handles power just fine . As far as a amp goes if you are going to compete use the 500/1 , for normal use this will almost be to much power as the amp will put out almost 700 watts at 2ohms for sq i would wire it to 8ohms and use the built in headroom the amp will have .If your system will be for crusing i would use w3's with same power . The rec. amp for a 8w7 is the 250/1 the same power would work great with the 10w6v2

If you think it is loud now try the ported box or the ho box for that sub. I have personal seen that sub doing mid 140's no problem

yes, that is what i paid for both the 500/1 and the 300/4, the 500/1 is running to just that sub.

well, ive spent about 7000 in my guys shop, so i do get pretty good pricing...sorry, the invoice isnt itemized, it was a package deal with some other parts totalling about 1800.

If you think it is loud now try the ported box or the ho box for that sub. I have personal seen that sub doing mid 140's no problem
i know that sub will get MUCH MUCH louder in the ho box...but for box design issues i had to go sealed to accomplish the look that i wanted, ill put some pics in my profile tonite so u can c what i mean...

Ok that 500/1 amp is underpowered for that amp. You need a bigger amp. Otherwise that sub is just wasted!!

the 500/1 is the recommended amp for the 10w7 and the 10w6v2. to xbofmnx: sealed is always better for SQ ported is for SPL and bandpass just sux ___. sealed lets the sub hit without any port noise or unruly and unnecessary "airy" sounds that take away from the quality of sound......i'm talking to comp not everyday cruisin....but if u use a 10w7 for comp with a 500/1, u better have some kick ___ highs and amp them....that sub is no joke

Thanks for all the replys. I am looking at getting the the Kenwood DDX7015 for the HU and depending on sub which if I get the 8w7 in the prowedge box from JL I would get the JL250/1 if I get the JL10w6v2 in the prowedge then I am getting the 500/1. JL is overpriced if you pay retail but I am getting the 8w7 prowedge for 439 or the 10w6v2 for 399 the 250/1 for 259 or the 500/1 for 429. The only problem is that they dont have any 10w62 in stock for me to here in the prowedge and I dont want to base my judgement on a 10w6 in a different box.

sorry I have to disagree....a properly build ported box will have little to no port noise...the box I'm using is ported and I can say for a fact that it will hit just as clear and deeper than a sealed box would...how many sealed box do you know of that can hit 20hz or lower? I'm not saying that ported is the best there is or anything, what I am saying is it depends on the design of the sub some work better in a seal enclosure than in a vented enclosure or vise versa.

is 20hz not below the range that the human ear can hear? i don't believe that your ported will hit as clear but i do however know that it will hit lower and louder it's more air moving around...i know that in my SQ system i will have a single 10w7, 500/1 and evo XR 6.5" components run by the 300/4 with a pioneer premier HU, perhaps....or the new alpine...sry don't remember models numbers....with this setup i should be a well-off competitor in the mid-atlantic area

what sub are you running in your ported box?
