Default Headliner lighting needs some help

like everyone else, i wanted some laylights but i cant afford/find them readily available so i went the way of stick_1NZ and added some headlinger lights of my own. I used this thread for inspiration and help:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...846&highlight=

and this is what my end product looks like:

I love the effect but i dont love the fact that you can clearly see the led assembly. its fine at night but during the day it's like, what are those thing? So i am in search of a way to enclose these leds. if anybody has any ideas please let me know. stick_1NZ was super super helpful all along the way with me and i really owe him a thousand thanks. So let me know what you guys think!

I'd make a little mini-sconce out of wood or fiberglass and cover it with headliner fabric. Maybe a long wedge shape?

I bought some of those lazerLEDs before I even saw ned's... I thought I was gonna break some ground.

I went to the hardware store, and found some brushed aluminum drawer handles, sorta like a clamshell, or 1/4 of a sphere - the lights fit underneath them pretty nicely.

I still haven't put the lights in tho. I was sent the wrong color, and have yet to find the purple ones I need.

You can get headliner fabric at a lot of fabric stores. You'll probably have to get a big piece if you get it at an auto-parts store.

Scionlife member Rcstprez has a business selling auto upholstery online if you want to get it that way, he can probably get you a really good match. http://www.e-autotrim.com/Headliner-p-16176.html

thanks for the link to the upholstery store, im sure he could get a really close match. Do you have any idea on how much material you need to re-wrap a head liner? i want to do it but im scared. im not sure i can do it and i dont want to really mess anything up. im still struggling with the sconce/covering for my leds but i will get there. thanks for everything.

oh i see, very creative, i may just have to look into that, im going to try to get some stuff done this weekend so i will let you know. i guess if you go this way the lights will be shining straight up and giving more of a spot like effect. im trying to go for full headliner look with the beams of lighting crossing to make a cool pattern, but i will try this way out and see how it goes. thanks.

the other idea i had (and this would achieve the look you're going for) would be to remove the plastic pillar pieces, and using some pliers and a heat gun, reform the tops slightly so that the lazer could be mounted behind the plastic, angling in and up. I think you'd need to bend it down at least 45*, but the lazers would be obscured from view.

You can do the headliner with three yards and fabric to spare, but it looks better if you do the headliner and the pillars in the same fabric.

I made my own "sconces"

3-5mm blue/white dual LED's
but i made the mistake of choosing Black Crushed Velvet for my headliner
the fabric completely absorbs the light emitted
and tragically the effect is barely noticeable
beware of your fabric choice and lighting plans

thanks randy for the input, its always good to hear from a legend like you. so when you put them behind the handle does it point straight up or can you get a nice full headliner pattern. i like how the 3 leds patterns cross and go from driver to passenger side. any input would be awesome. i may just go to the typical 4" cathode behind the handle. but where does the transformer go if you go that route? thanks for everything. Also, i need some vinyl, do you have a price/spec sheet or is everything case by case?

they light up the headliner nicely. They also make a 5 led version.
all vinyl work is custom. price depends on the size, design, how much work it is to weed, etc.
