If you do a search, you'll find a couple of topics dealing with this.

It's easy. Just pull the lower bezel surrounding the shifter off, and unplug the cig lighter, then the entire upper bezel just snaps out. There's no screws in the bezels. There's 2 screws and 2 10mm nuts holding the radio in.

Good luck getting another radio to fit. It took me 4 hours to fab something up.

What about the head unit didn't fit? Was it just the trim or did you actually have to create a custom mounting bracket?

I have a kenwood unit in my 91 camry right now. Shouldn't that just drop right into the tC?

There's no kit for the tC yet, and the xA / xB kit doesn't work (different brackets). I took what I had, a Toyota Echo kit, and fabbed up the brackets to make it work. It sucked, and I wouldn't want to do it again, but it worked,

I replaced my headunit a few days ago, and put a write up on it in the ICE forum. Here is a link, check it out. It should give you a decent idea of what is involved.

My expierence wasn't bad at all. It took all of about 20 minutes to modify the dash kit I bought for the xA/xB to mount to the factory brackets.

Looks pretty good. I think the issue with mine was, my deck, a Kenwood 879, is motorized, and the factory panel sits facing up a little, making my radio VERY hard to see. I had to modify it to angle down a little more to clear the cover, and to improve the sightlines to the face of the deck. I also used a little different kit, the Echo kit, seeing as no one here had a xA/xB kit available. I'll have to take a few pics when I get a chance.

I will say that the kit I used was a pain to find. I ended up ordering it from a web site. All of the local audio dealers said the Scion kits where special order and would take a couple of week for them to get one in. Getting the kit was the most dfficult part of the whole process. I wil say that I don't think the Scosche SCN2056 kit would work with the process I described in my other post simply because it does not support ISO mounting. In most cases when a kit supports ISO mounting it will have much more plastic on the side to mount the factory brackets to.

I did not do much reasearch on the Metra kit, so I have no idea if it would work or not. I used the American International kit, and know it works. I also looked in to the Best Kits BKTOYK969 unit, and think it would work just fine as well.
