Default HELP! My Stock headunit don't turn on no more!

i was wiring my amp, and i accidentally touch the wire that goes to the battery thats (+), and the wire that goes to the headunit thats (-) together, and there was a spark that came out of it. Now im not getting power to my amp and headunit. do u guys think my wires and headunit might have blown out? if my headunit is blown out, doesn't that void the warranty of it?

chances are that the fuse for the radio blew.. it's why fuses are there, to protect the unit from shorts like what happened to you.. check the fuse box for the radio fuse i bet it's blown.. replace it and you'll be fine

well the owner's manual will tell you what kind you need, most likely an auto parts store like autozone, advance parts, napa.. even the dealer might have them too..

you'll be able to look at the fuse and see the fusible link broken in the middle.. that's when you'll know it's blown..

no.. if the fuse is blown, no power will go to the headunit at all.. usually the radio fuse is a mini-blade fuse like this (don't know if this is the correct one, but they look like this) you can see the fuse link in the middle, looks like an S..

http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...Fid=270%2D1201

and are you trying to wire your amplifier's power from the power to the headunit? you can't use that.. you'll have to run a 8-10 gauge (minimum) wire directly from the battery to your aftermarket amplifier..

try the fuse panel, the owner's manual should tell you where the fuse is located for the headunit..

no fuse on the radio, it's in the fuse panel..

it might not be the same type of fuse.. there are blade fuses and mini-blade.. they look the same but are different sizes.. if it's the same size and amp rating (number stamped on top) (once you find it from the owner's manual) yeah you could use it if it were the same type and amp rating..

im looking at the owners manual right now. there are two locations where the fuse box is located. one is near the head light. the other is under the steering wheel. u think the one under the steer wheel is the radio fuse?

sciontc_mich I must applause your patience. I was about to pull my hair out just reading this.

furn4ce: Yes the fuse for the radio is in the fuse box under the steering wheel. Pull off the cover and turn it so you can see the inside of it. There should be a diagram of the fuse panel. Find the one that says Radio (might be something else but should be easily identifiable). Then see how the fuse panel is oriented compared to the diagram and find the fuse. Take it out and look at the metal encased in the plastic. If it isn't a nice clean solid piece all the way across, then it's blown and you need another one. If it's not blown go to the rear of the head unit, find the main power wire + and there should be a little black box attached to it. This is the fuse box. Open it and pull out the fuse and check it.

If neither of those fuses is blown, STOP everything and take your car to a professional to have it looked at.

I don't wish to be rude, but if you are having to ask these types of questions, I would take your car to a professional to have this work done. You risk seriously damaging your car's wiring, and even risk possible fire.
