Some tire shine leaked out on to my back seat. Now I have a 4-5" round spot. I can't get it to lift out. I tried some upholstery cleaner, no luck. I also try laundry detergent and warm water. I can rub my finger across it and still get a greasy residue on them. This is really ruining my week.

Any other suggestions?

 

The problem is that the tire shine has soaked itself into the foam padding under the seat fabric. Everytime you try to clean the cover, the soaked foam releases more tire shine!

You'll need to separate the cover from the padding to do a proper clean up...

Actually if it leaked onto the rear seat lap cushion, its not that hard to remove & disassemble. The lap cushion pops out & when you turn it over, its just a series of "hog rings" that hold the upholstery to the foam. If you plan to take it out yourself, mark where the old "hog rings" go, or take pictures, or something, get a set of "hog ring" pliers, & a supply of hog rings (about 40). After you take it apart, then you can address cleaning. You can probably find the pliers at a Pep Boys or like store. The dealer should be able to sell you some "hog rings", unless their ******.

 

Get a steam cleaner, or a high powered vacuum cleaner and a water spray. spray the water in and suck it out with the cleaner.It might take a while since it seems theres alot of it in there.

Before you do all of this is just tray and manually blot as much as you can up with paper towels. the key is to not let it spread.

 

Thanks for the tips. I was going to try and seperate the seat cushion this weekend. Hopefully it works out. I don't think to much leaked out into the seat, because I had the tire shine in my bag of detailing stuff. Hopefully that works out to my advantage.

 

Interior work isn't hard, just take your time with the "jigsaw puzzle" as you take it apart. There is also a great carpet/interior spray cleaner. It sells in Walmart in a larger light blue can. Stuff works wonders at home, and in the car.

 

I had something like this happen to my other car, except the bottle of tire shine tipped over and leaked giving me a big dark stain on the carpet.

I ended up using a Dirt Devil spot scrubber/cleaner that I have and just kept spraying it down with a mix of laundry detergent and water in a spray bottle and sucking it out over and over again until eventually I got it all out. It took a while to get it all out, I know you tried the detergent thing before but give it another shot and allow it to soak and scrub it before you suck it out.

 

Yeah I kind of thought that I would need to go over it a few more times. I'm definitly going to attack it this weekend.

I decided not to take the seat cover off, because its glued to the foam. I didn't want to mess with that. So I just took the seat out and have been cleaning it every once in a while. It has been getting better with every cleaning.
