that is a crazy commute! Where the heck do you live/work???
I only have a half hour commute, but in my multiple trips between LA and San Diego, and San Diego and Las Vegas, I have no complaints. To be honest, I don't even miss the armrest I so dearly loved on my VW.
I'm about 6'1"

The xB is fun to drive except for the stiff ride. On Highway 280 in Cupertino, the ride gets really tiring after about 5 minutes because the freeway has all those pavement joints. You may really want to test drive the xB on the worst part of your commute, if possible. just to make sure you can tolerate a two hour journey.
I mainly drive it in the city and the ride is OK.

Hey JonBee...
I live in Fairfield and work in Redwood City, so I feel you on the long commute. I think the ride is fine. I'm about 6'1 1/2"( ) so I'm kinda in the same boat as you. The ride isn't that bad, but when driving over the crap a$$ asphault on 80 through Fairfield, not many rides feel good. When on better stretches, it rides smooth as glass. You feel the bumps, but the suspension does a pretty good job of absorbing the road abnormalities. One of the things that attracted me to the xB was that the seats are so comfortable. My commute takes me about 70 minutes each way and I'm only tired from just sitting behind the wheel for so long. Besides that, I don't get any aches or pains from the ride.
Obviously I'm an owner, but I recommend this car. Can't comment on the xA, but 2fixA can!
Yo Toufic, chime in buddy!

We took an 8 hour exploring drive around SoCal and it was way comfortable. There wasn't even really a need to stretch our legs. Pit stops didn't make us think "thank God we are out of that car!" Hope that helps.
