How do I set radio to read scion in japanese with '06 model?
Hi, someone posted the steps to "set radio to read 'scion' in japanese as your welcome screen" with '05 stock radio, now since they change the '06 radio a bit, the instructions for '05 don't work on the '06 model. The owner's Manual for the radio only tells you how to change the Welcome Screen, now how do I set radio to read scion in japanese with '06 model? thanks for ur input!

Wow you mean someone else actually wanted to do this too? Please tell me you can read/speak Japanese...or at least tell me that people in Japan are buying our american cars wanting their stereos to say Chevrolet in English...
...can't come up with something else...favorite football team... girlfriends name ...
just kidding... good luck! ( pretend that my good luck is written in Japanese )

Welcome Screen only
I just want to change the Welcome Screen Display to Japanese, it would be a cool trick to do if I knew how. :sign:
I've followed the 'radio owner's manual and changed the default welcome display from 'scion' to '2006 xBox' in English, just wanna add a personal touch, that's all.

the place I saw it was folling a link in someone sig here. It was a weird offsite webpage like ccl.fl.com or something weird like that. It had a bunch of how-to's and info on the cars. I've been trying to find it ever since.

it is sa-i-o-n in katakana
like this:
Pretty sure that is how it was spelt in JPN. Katakana (the alphabet) is used mainly for foreign translated words into Japanese, like english names etc... Like Scion

It looks like if there was a way to do this, someone would have figured it out by now.
I ended up compromising by setting my '06 xA's HU to "shiruba-tamago" which is Romanized Japanese (Romanjii) for "silver egg".
Best I could suggest for the original poster would be something like "buru-bokkusu" ("blue box"), or whatever Japanese phrase you might find more suitable. Play around with some online JP<>EN dictionaries if you've drawn a blank.
Gokouun o inorimasu! (Good Luck!)

to find out how to put on the japanese letters for the xb/xa/tc,
go to www.servcoscion.com (which is the local Hawaii distributor for the Scions) and click down to 'download brochure'. It will then upload to adobe pdf and the brochure will open up...
Near the end of the brochure (page 15 if you clicked on the picture of the xa/xb or page 19 if you clicked on the picture of the tc) , you will see the subheading 'Easter Eggs' where you will find instructions as to how to program to see the japanese characters, among other greetings.
Hope this helps a lot of you on SL who want to modify the greeting on their Pioneer HU.
