Default How Do you get to rear Speakers?

How many bolts do I have to remove to get to the rear speakers? Are there only the tow allen wrenches and what size is the allen wrench? Do you think 6 1/2 will fit in the rear? I know you guys say it is 5 1/4 but what do you think?

Youll need more than that. The speakers are also riveted in

You just need to begin taking off the trunk panels to get to the rear speakers. I do not think that 6.5 will fit the hole is fairly close to 5.25 size. Also, the rear speakers were not riveted in, they were only screws.

I just did it on my xB over the weekend. Here's what I did:

Remove the cargo box or spare tire box (depending on side)

Remove the two 8mm hex bolts (cargo cover hangers)

Remove the rear seat back

Remove the rear seat cushion

Remove the rear seat back hinge

Remove whatever that other bolt is

Remove the door sill

Remove or loosen the cargo door trim (plastic door sill at the bottom of the opening)

Remove the weatherstripping

Carefully pop loose a few plastic fasteners and snaps

I recommend doing one side at a time so you have a reference in case you're not 100% sure how things go back together

The rear speaker is a 5" paper driver that screams "cheap." On my xB the speaker is screwed in place and not riveted.

(Edit: It's easier to remove the rear seat back first, then the rear seat cushion. And yes, it is kind of a PITA.)

sounds like a lot of work to get to the rear speaker what do you think a 6 1/2 speaker will fit. Because I have some boston pro components 6 1/2 to put in there if it will fit.

Anything is possible...It depends on how much customization you want to do. To be honest, i wouldnt even bother. Whats the point? You dont hear the rear speakers from the drivers compartment anyways.
