Default "How To" Re-Wrap Headliner

Heres the "How To" Re-Wrapping headliner this also goes with the "How To" Sunroof install. But can be done without a sunroof install.

If you in the Hampton Roads area in Virginia hit me up. I do tons of modifications from Airride, Fiberglass interiors, Security/Audio/Video, Vinyl Graffics, Body/Paint, Anything..... I will be starting a new custom shop in Atco NJ 2 miles from Atco Raceway in a few months.

Links to my other work ... http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/659424/1
(Please check out all the pics)

Any other questions

Ok lets start by saying... I am not responsible for anything by posting this all info is provided as a "use at your own risk basis". Also if you dont know hot to remove or cant figure out how to remove the interior pieces and headliner DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS you will not make it threw it all.

Tools/ Materials
Squirt Bottle
Denatured Alcohol
Razer Blade
Spray Glue
Air Sprayer (aka Paint Gun)
Headliner Material ( I used black tweed. Black tweed is good

Heres a pic of the Denatured Alcohol cost $20 at Home Depot (Get the big container.)

Step 1. Put the Denatured Alcohol into the spray bottle and start spraying the headliner. Soak it down well it makes the headliner material very easy to remove. Dont spray the entire thing this stuff does dry up spray sections as you go. It will take about an hour to get it all off. Just make sure your removing just the headliner material and not the fiberglass backing as well.

Step 2. Once the headliner is completely removed let it sit out in the sun and dry for an hour or so.

Step 3.a (IF YOU HAVE A SUNROOF) You need to put the headliner back in and cut out where the switch goes into place before you wrap the headliner.

Step 3.b Once its dry cut out your material and wrap it onto the new headliner starting at one side and work towards the other. (THIS IS A 2-3 PERSON JOB) If you have a sunroof wrap the sunroof panel as well.

Step 4. Now cut out all the holes in the headliner and corners to make it a better fit. (DO NOT CUT OUT THE SUNROOF HOLE) This will have to be cut while in the car from the top of the car so make sure you sunroof is left open and the sunroof conver piece has been removed. This isnt to hard to wrapp, you just have to leave some slack and put the material in the channel and hammer the seal in with a rubber mallet.

(OPTIONAL Part) This is where I think its a good time to dynamat the entire roof for future installs.

Step 5. (ANOTHER OPTIONAL STEP BUT NOT REALLY) I painted my rear-view mirror and other parts that are connected to the headliner to match it. I will be re-wrapping the visors and painting the handles later on.

Step 6. Put the headliner and all other components in.

Select Products is a great company I get alot of stuff from them for my vehicles. Bes thing to do is call them and ask them what they recomment for headliners. If your going with a headliner material that stuff you linked will work, if your going with a heavy material like tweed you need something stronger. So just let them know when you call what you want to wrap it with.

Tweed is what I used and I order it from www.SelectProducts.com

You can purchase material everyone and tweed is difficult to work with becuase its thick. Headliner material comes in black and alot easier to use. I just like tweed.

The glue I used I get from the upholstrey shop or the fabric shop.

Yeah I like the tweed on the headliner. Looks really good. So the spray can wouldn't work with tweed at all huh? I may go with just a headliner material then.

Ive used that black CF vinyl from them before and its looks cool I jsut had a hard time with the way it layed down. I was trying to use the spray cans and it didnt hold at all you need to use the spray gun .

It comes 54" wide by yard lenghts so a headliner you need about 4 yards.

What if you just used 5 oz. fabric (non impregnated/laminated) carbon fiber fabric.
50"x108" would cost 97.00 plus about 12dollars shipping.. would be a bit expensive but definatly unique.

Id be careful with the 50 inches. The 54 inches was barely enough when i wrapped it.
