but has anyone discovered a way to put an 8" or 10" sub in the back of an xa or xb without sacrificing trunk space or the spare tire?
I have looked around and haven't found anything.

They make boxes that fit in the storage foam next to the spare tire. I know there are a bunch on ebay and Scoche (sp?) makes one with a sub already in it. Only problem is I don't think they have a grill so you might have to fab one. BTW this was for the xB on the xA I have no idea.
watch the banners for audioforms they make enclosures that replace the storage container near the spare... and think the amprack fits over the spare.... toss on a sturdy grill and you should be good to

I think i've figured it out. I'll post pics when i'm done, but here is what i'm building. It will take the place of the current floor of the trunk, and will incorporate a sub box that will give me a 6" mounting depth, .7 sqaure feet for the sub and an amp rack set under the floor. On top of the amp will be plexiglass so you can see the amp. Now I have to come up with a decent grill for the sub. Oh, by the way, the sub i am using is a 10" pioneer that needs .7 - 1.2 cubic feet. So i should be good. HOpefully this turns out good.
(And i get to leave my spare tire inside where it's at.)

i made an FG mold of my spare and put an mdf top on it with an 8" in it. it pounded, but now im going for the same thing with a 10". oh. btw pioneer makes a flat mount woofer that only needs .35-.7 for mounting.
Here you go...

You can choose you own 8" sub or have the guys at Elegonics/Quarter Wave Designs install one for you. They are dealers for Elemental Designs now and I can vouch for both companies. Great products from both of them.

my enclosure was copied from an icixsound.com member(rather badly i might add) xa-minister, if i were you i might check out what they^^^^^^^said. these are some awesome looking boxes and you dont lose ANY of your trunk space or rear compartment space. still, it rocks to do something on your own. now i just have to redo mine...this sucks

Ok, here is what I have done so far with this box...err whatever.
1. I had to cut out 5 rings and a base from 3/4 in mdf. I made each ring 13 inches in diameter with a 11.5 diameter center. This gives me 3/4 inch in the width of the ring. The bottom i made out of 1/2 in mdf so it would be flush with the top of the tire.

2. Next it came time to assemble the center cylinder. I used wood glue and 1 1/2" brad nails (using my nail gun).

3. From there I cut out the bottom part of the box. It was made to not fit entirely across the whole trunk...for reasons seen in the next picture.

4. I forgot to take pictures of the next stage, but it is pretty easy. I will post dimensions after I get everything hooked up. (I want to make sure it works.) This was a test fit.

5. Before I mount the top I want to actually get my sub. As soon as it comes in I will finish this box. This step was to caulk the heck out of it. Making sure there are no ways for air to get in or out.

6. This is it in my car...

7. And with the floor down...

Let me know what you think.

i didn't want to lose the spare, or any of my storage space. Even if it doesn't sound perfect, it will beat the factory sound. By the way, this give me .63 cubic feet of air. My sub needs .5 We'll see how she sounds when I get it in. (Boston G110)

yeah, i took out the big plastic nut...lol...and this is sitting inside. Best of both worlds kinda. I get my sub, but don't sacrifice anything but wasted space.

after my sub comes in we'll see it is more than just a good idea...i hope so.
Oh by the way, I have 5 1/4 of mounting depth. (If i had a little more air space i could have fit the 12" version in. It only needed 5" of depth, but 1 cubic foot of air space
