Default I'm going to upgrade my speakers and get a sub v.questions

this is a quote from another thread asking about installing a sub and amp with the stock HU.
1 Pioneer or Rockford Fosgate PS1 10 inch woofer (currently the Rockfords are dirt cheap I get them for $42 each) Best Buy
1 prefab box (about $40 squre simple basic sealed)
1 200 watt bridged amp (Currently the small 2 chanel from Pioneer suprized the hell out of me costs about $100) Again best Buy
Couple feet of Amp power wire (about $15) Yep Best Buy
High level converter ($20 or cheaper) Best Buy (no I don't work for them or love the store, it's just a fairly cheap place to get stuff)
is this all i need to hook up the sub to the stock HU? will it be able to handle it, including installing new front speakers?

TIA

I would say you need the following depending on where you want to mount the amps:
-Line out converter (Which I happen to have a sweet one I'll sell you for less than $20) http://cgi.ebay.com/LOC-Line-Out-Con...QQcmdZViewItem
-Amplifier
-Cabling- Power (Red) 15 to 18', fuse holder/ circuit breaker less than 18" from battery on power lead, Ground (Black) 5', 5/16" Ring terminals, remote turn-on wire (small wire) same length as power wire, RCA cable to amp from deck (ran along opposite side as power cabling) 17', speaker wire 40' 16AWG
-Subwoofer
-Enclosure for sub
-Grommets
-Zip Ties
Mark

EDIT- So you are aware the stock deck doesn't have provisions for a remote turn on lead. You can wire it to the ignition lead but make sure to put a power switch inline so that you can turn off your amps when you want to. Otherwise it's kinda annoying to have the amps on when the car turns on. If you have any other questions please give me a shout.

I would say your confidence in your ability to perform relatively simple mechanical and electrical tasks determines what you should do. For the install that I assume you're looking for I don't think you'd end up spending all that much to have it done. An added bonus to having your equipment installed professionally is that there is typically a warranty on the workmanship, plus some companies like Image Dynamics, offer a longer warranty period on things that are professionally installed. If you had it done at a store like Best Buy (which is an option) I would expect to pay 250-300 before parts for the install. Another option would be to take it to a shop that does custom work, expect to pay a bit more (or a lot more depending on what you want them to do) but you'll likely end up with a better/more satisfying end result. Also, given the fact that you're 22 you might want to consider going with a bit higher end product as you may grow out of it. Heck, I'm 27 and I've still got the car audio bug pretty bad. Mark
