I have had many speakers in my xb and they were all average, now I have XR653-cs Jl Audio componets and they are gorgeous sounding. The Mb Quart has the tendency to get distorted at high volumes cuz it is a SQ speaker and the infinity is just another competitor

Well you guys are genious... I took my car to circuit city and told them about cutting out that ring around the interior of the speaker grill. The did so, and also used a plastic spacer and the speakers fit, the door panels closed, etc.. I cant believe tweeter couldnt do that/didnt think of it, and wanted to charge me 80 dollars for the standard install + 100 for the "custom" work...

The speakers actually only sound a little better than the stocks at the momment, so Im hoping it will be a lot better with my new alpine 9831.. Unless there is something I can do to make it better like turning the gain up on my amp or something. They just seem to distort at around 28 on the stock head unit.. Also What kind of sound should I be hearing out the tweeters. It sound like im hearing like everything out the tweeters, it was my impression that only certain instruments, etc would come out.. Maybe im wrong, or maybe they didnt hook up the crossover correctly..

did you install a amp? cause i can run my speakers up to about 55 on the factory headunit, and there still clear as a bell with no distrotion, when mine is on 28 i can barly hear them, you should check the amp to make sure they have it set up right

I have this amp.. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Jl9Cueq...0&I=500MRPF240

Sure its not the most powerful, but it should be getting a good amount of power to the speakers.. I assume with my new head unit and using rcas it will be must better.. But if You can take a look at my amp, maybe u can tell me something settings to have on to make it sound better.. Like what should I have the gains set at, bass eq, filter, etc.. Currently its on the high level input and im sure its not getting that great of a signal./

So do I get the change for the advice? hehe

For $200 you should have went on ebay and got something a LOT stronger for cheaper. Is the amp still returnable or have you passed the time limit. I STRONGLY urge a stronger and cleaner amp. 40 watts is nothing for speakers. I've used 300 before.

The more power you have the more headroom. You'll be able t crank it up louder without distortion.

Yeah I understand that now... I didnt know all that much about amps when I got it. It kind of be a pain in the ___, I would have to run a new power wire, etc. What settings could I change to make it better? Like what is the filter for?

well you amp is not strong enough to run those speakers, it is really gonna kill ur sound even with a new rca's and alpine head unit, its still not gonna sound much better thanthe factory system, i think the infinity speakers can go up to 140 watts per speaker, so you at least want a amp that can handle at least half the max out put of ur speakers, so if you go with a 400 -500 watt 4 channel amp with your speakers you should be good, thats what i have, a 500 watt amp 4 channel, i would strongly recommend sendn back the amp you bought, cause you can blow you speakers really easy if you dont get the right amp

Hmmm, this kinda sucks doesnt it lol... Ill see what I can do about taking the amp back, but im highly doubting it. No way in hell tweeter is going to take it back.. I just checked my receipt, I got it on the 14th of november.. So basically its going to be my weak link in the system and cause my speakers to blow..

Do you guys want to point me towards a good powerful 4 channel amp for my speakers that is about $200.. Also I asked this before, what is the filter controls on my amp for, and what should it be set at? I believe right now, both filter controls are set on HP

When using the filters for your component speakers they should be set at HP aka highpass. You should have it set at about 80-120 hz. Just try each one out and see how the speakers handle it. You really shouldn;t go below 80 as those are subwoofer frequencies and can damage spakers that are not meant to handle it or are just not installed correctly.

Not sure if you know about frequencies much but here goes.
20-80hz is subwoofer. Some subs won't play down to 20hz. Lots of music doesn't even have 20hz notes anyways.

80-200hz is midbass
200-3khz is midrange
2khz-20khz is the highs/tweets

Generally in a car the midrange and midbass are played off of the same speaker.

One thing you can do is use that alpine and BRIDGE it. meaning use it as a two channel amp for your front speakers only. Let your rear speakers run off the headunit. If you can do that then it'll be fine as long as you like it.

That is the important part, I may suggest things. BUT if you like it then keep it.

I didn't read the whole thread to see if this was said. But thoose Infinity's need a little custom work to fit, nothing big. I have them myself, the tweeters went in the stock spot, the crossover just got mounted inside the door on the bottom left side, the speakers are deeper then stock, I used Honda spacers to move them out a little and it works fine.

40 watts if it a true RMS is plenty..however it depends on your speaker effeciency....as an example my door speaker put out 94db@1w1m....I ahve some EV EL12 LGM's that put out 110db@1w1m..you don't need 300W for those bad boys

I had some Utopias, 92.5db, not sure how it's measured. But I had over 300 watts on em at one time. More POWA! equals more headroom.

Basically each channel has a '+' and '-', so with four channels you should have 4 '+' and 4 '-'. When your bridge, you take 2 channels and turn them into one.

Your manual or the amp should be marked as to which connections you need to make to make it into bridged mode. Usually you take the positive from one of the front channels and a negative from the other front channel. Not just any + and -, they are specific. Repeat again with the rear channels.

In theory when your bridge a 4x4 amp it turns it into a 160x2 amp. Basically take one channel and x4. Not all amps do x4 in bridged mode though. Also when in bridged mode you have to pay attention to your ohm load as the amp is making much much more power. You shouldn;t have to worry about ohms as long as you hook up ONLY your front speakers to the amp.

Can u take a look at this picture http://www.crutchfield.com/S-bqYARrw...&display=L#Tab

I just want to bridge the front speakers so how would I do so? Im just confused on what you said. There is obviously two wires for left and two wires for right. So do I which do I twist together, etc.. Also I noticed on my new speakers the right tweeter is producing no audio.. So I dont know if the tweeter is defective or if circuit city didnt wire the crossover on the right correctly.

In regards to bridging I talked to some people at circuit city, and they said before I bridge the front, I need to make sure the speaker supports 2 ohm. From the official infinity site it shows "impedance: 4ohm" So does this mean I cant use them in bridged mode>
