Installed Scion VSE Subwoofer
The install took about 1-2 hours, and was fairly simple.
I think the subwoofer sounds amazing. The scion already had great sound, but this is the missing element where there was a bit of gap coming from the middle of the car. It adds a punch, sounds like two 10's back there and not one. The great thing is, I still have room for my skateboard, basketball and my gym bag without leaving a mess in my back seat. So, I think it is a great bang for your buck at less than $300...and you can install it yourself..
So, if anyone was wondering - it's a great buy! sounds great!

I agree, it sounds very nice... I ordered my car with it installed. It's a little costly for what it is, but hey it sounds nice and clear, looks great in the trunk, save a LOT of room compaired to other subs AND you can still get to your spare!
I'm not interested in blowing out my ears.... I just want good sound quality

For whoever said it sucked, it really doesn't. I wouldn't lie. I used to have two infinity perfect subs in my accord when I had that thing on the road. While that was louder, this is nice, and gives the tC just what it needs. So your car doesnt rattle to death, and doesn't sound like a club on wheels. I think it is perfect and sounds really good. And hell yes to the trunk space, I need it!!!!
I was strongly considering this, but I can't justify it for $300. I think I'll get a nice Infinity Kappa for about $100, a kenwood amp for another $100 which leaves me $100 for install in a custom box tucked into that same corner the bazooka sits in. I don't think the install should cost much more then that.

i'm not saying the Scion/Bazooka sub is the best out there (i have it and love it, and i did drive around for 2 weeks without it prior to the install so i know the impact it made on the sound)... but for the money, you are not going to find a better sound/packaging combination. this is one of the scion options which isn't overpriced at all.
what a waste of money. For $300 i could buy two mtx subs and an amp and have it sound sweet. Bazooka's suck, i think there like the worst subs, why scion offers that brand blows my mind. Worst sounding, and scion just makes it worse. That sub isnt worth 100. I think u got jacked. If u can return it i say do, it as soon as possible. Total waste of money. Sorry dude, just trying to help ya out, and any of u guys out there even thinking about it. Believe me, walk in to any stereo store and they'll pretty much tell ya the same. If not they must be new, ask the next person.

idiot.
I know audio. (I deal with $100k+ home theaters every day and even the occasional million dollar "listening" rooms). In fact I have over $7000 worth of speakers sitting on my desk where I work…
The sub is good and defiantly doesn't suck. It is lacking a slight "tightness" to the bass that would make it very good. Apparently this can be solved by stuffing some stuff in the tube. (I’m going to do it this weekend). Frequency response is very good playing audible tones well down to ~28hz... Anything below that at high volumes will just loosen nuts and bolts in your car anyways…
Another thing that could improve the sound at a minimum expense is some kind of cross over for the front and rear speakers. Right now they get the full range of sound even with a sub. (I think Pioneer/ Scion should have installed a crossover if you got the sub)...
Sure you can spend mad cash on some JL audio subs and an amp. But don't count on having any trunk space.

the sub does indeed produce quite usable subsonic output. it won't do 20hz but throbs pretty good without too much midbass (boomy) which sounds terrible imo.
about the crossover, with the sub at the 'factory recommended setting' i have to put the bass to -3 for a slightly bass heavy balance. but my other settings are 'feel', 'xa' and 'srt on'. so that kind of rolls the bass off going to the stock speakers. if i fade the sound all the way rear (the sub is wired parallel with the front speakers) there is very little bass going through with that setting.
^^^^^Please take pics when you do the stuffing!
I have an aftermarket HU(Kenwood ddx7015), would the installion of the sub be any different? It would still be self-amplified, correct? Also, having a better HU than stock can only make the sound better, right?

cq107 - I agree with most of your statements. I want this sub too, because for the money it's a a pretty decent upgrade (for a stock setup). Of coarse you can go aftermarket and get a great sound, but you will spend more money - guarenteed. And to whoever thinks that MTX is high quality ..
as for the mids/highs, has anyone tried running inline caps to the mids/highs? with the right x-over cut off, it should stop the bass from coming to those speakers, so that your sub (if x-over around 120) should produce all of the low tones.

People who spend thousands of dollars on subwoofers and amplifiers are crazy. The stock system is even good enough. The stock head unit is amazing too, it looks the best IMO. Why put a small ___ head unit in there, that doesnt match the car? I hate people who do stupid things to their cars, it irritates me...
