Installing new Head Unit in xB?
Can anyone tell me detailed instructions on how to swap out the stock head unit that comes with Scion xB? I want to install this new Pioneer Head Unit I got, but I cant figure out how to get the old one out

that'll show you how to get it out...just follow the instructions on the kit you are using to install for the rest

Does anyone by chance have instructions on how to take apart like the center console where the gear switcher is and stuff?? Thats where tweeter said they ran my speaker wire and stuff to my amp under the front passenger seat, and to save me a little money on installation fees, I was going to try to run the rca wire myself?
To pull up the center console just take the little piece of carpet out of the back cupholder, unscrew the philips head bolt, and pull straight up from the front to pop the 2 plastic connectors out, and lift the console out of position.
well, i took apart the center part where the shifter is, that was easy, then I took off the center console where the ac ***** are, and took out the stock head unit.. I couldnt find where tweeter ran the freakin speaker wire, so I guess now im going to have to pay to get my new alpine head unit installed... Whereelse could they have ran it to get it under the passenger seat? I see all the wire from the head unit going down the center console, then it may go to the right..
ok, I have all the rcas ran to my amp, now I have a question about hooking up the head unit.. I bought the wiring harness for the xb and have connector with the wires that go into the head unit. Its an alpine cda-9831. When I got my amp installed they ran the speaker wire from the speaker output of the amp, and sliced it into the corresponding wires into the factory harness. When I plug the wiring harness I bought into the factory harness, do I need to hook up the wires that are for front +/- and rear +/-? Or since Im going to be using the rcas and an amp, I just leave those wires out and keep the speaker wires from the amps speaker output spliced into the factory harness? Also, there is a black ground wire that comes out of the alpine wiring harness - where would be a good place to connect this? And There is a black ground on the wiring harness I got, where do I connect this? Also I do connect the power ant wire too right?
connect the two black wires together (thats the ground from the factory wrie harness to the radio).
now if you plan on using the amp for the interior speakers (read not a sub)... follow this....
from the alpine you have the rca's run to the amp..
from the alpine take the white, gray, green, purple pairs of speaker wires and tape them up (individually so the don't short out to each other or anything else...)
also run the remote (blue wire from the alpine) to the amp...(don't know where tweeter ran this wire, but this is the proper place for it now...)
the amp should have power and ground (from tweeter, right???)
now, from the amp....
run four sets of speaker wires to behind the radio...
connect the wires to the wire harness you bought (front left +/-, front right +/-........) the speaker wire you ran will either be copper/silver, clean/striped or round/square(ribbed)...
keep the silver or stripe or square as the negative (this is just so you keep things uniform and can get the right polarity to the speakers...)
then you can trace each wire back to the amp and attach to the proper output...(remember the stripe, silver, square will be negative...)(if you know how to click out a speaker it will speed things up...)
undo anything tweeter had done behind your radio and fix any splices (don't undo the power/ground, but move the remote if needed and hook up the power ant wire...)

it will be cleaner than before, but it is the same idea...
just don't hook up the alpine spearker outputs to the harness if the amp is hooked up to them as well...
its one or the other

Hmmm, shouldint I just connect the speaker wire directly to the wires coming out of the alpine wiring harness and bypass the wires for the speakers from the harness I got? My friend had told me I could just leave the speaker wire they have spliced into the factory harness, and not hook the wires out of the harness I bought, because it would give the speakers too much power, and isnt needed with rcas?
And as for the ground, I just solder the black from the wiring harness I got to the black from the apline harness? check picture to see what I mean? So it doesnt matter, even though the apline instructions mention something about putthinbg the ground to an exising bol?

so, cut the end off the alpine ground wire on solder the two together...
the rest of what you said above is confusing me....(it hurts make it stop...)
do you want to use your amp to power your speakers?.....
if so,
do not hook up the speaker outputs from the alpine to anything...
the rcas run the signal to the amp.
the outputs from the amp send the signal to the speakers...the wires to the speakers are in that harness on the left (white and grey, and the other plug has the green, purple). connect the output from the anp to the correct colored pair.
tweeter would have had to cut the factory plug to do this with the factory radio (or used two plugs) what do the wires behind the radio look like (pic please of the plugs and splices)
tweeter might have saved you some work, unless you want to fix things to make it more like stock...
this isnt the greatest picture on it, but its one I took before, and Its too dark to take off the dash now to take a better pic.. Also I have a question, on the apline harness, rather then the power ant wire and the illumination wire having bare copper wiring there is a barrel end on it.. Is it better to cut off those ends and just twist the two wires together, or is it fine to just solder the wire from the harness to the alpine harness connector??

Some of the speaker wire spliced in is for the high level input on my amp currently being used..

ok, the way to get this in and working quick and dirty....
do not connect the alpine speaker leads to anything and prevent them from touching any thing else...
at the amp...
diconnect the high level input and tape off so they are safe...
connect the RCA's (you only need one kind of input for the amp.)
the output from the amp should be connected to the speakes already by tweeter (fine leave it...)
you are done...
the power ant wire i would cut the end off and solder to the harness (no harm is done by this..) i don't remember the ill. wire having a connector (i never hook it up anyways, just makes the radio get dim at night. i like it bright)
now, if it were me...
i would re-connect the wires that tweeter cut and use the harness for this...
but i am a picky a-hole...

hmm, what do u mean the illum makes it get dim at night - whats the purpose of this? I guess the right way would be to redo what tweeter did, but I plan on having this car for awhile, so its not like I need to keep it looking stock behind the scenes.. Also, do you know of any bolts behind the head unit area I could use for ground?
radios with the ill. wire will dim (or change colors) when you turn on the parking/head lights.
it is meant to get dim so it will be easier on the eyes at night.
if your planning on keeping the car for any length of time redo the mess.
you will upgrade a radio (with navi) or add more speakers or diff. amps or diff location of amps...
it will be nicer in the future to have it clean.
but you can take care of that in the future too...
hope i was helpfull, if you lived near me i would help you out...
but it seems like you are on the right track now...

you don't need to ground it to a bolt, just use the wire in the new harness you bought..
it supplies constant and switched power as well as ground...
if you insist on bolting the ground...
i don't recall a nut/bolt in there, but in the back of the hole on the left is a verticle support for a connection support... you could screw into it on put the ground there..

Here is a picture of the finalized alpine harness hooked up to the toyota harness I purchased. When I actually hook up my head unit on christmas I will hook up the remote turnon and speakers. All these connections were twisted together, soldered, wire nut, and then electrical taped. Tell me if there is anything u see to fix from this pic..
