Installing New Speakers in back of xb..
I just got new Infinity kappa perfect 6.1 components for the front, so I figure I might as well swap out the backs too. Nothing expensive, but something decent - better then the stocks.. My question is, how do you get to the speakers that are in the back in the truck area of the xb?
you have to pull out the rear seats, and then you can get to the pannel that holds covers the entire rear sides. Kind of a pain, but not really if you know what you are doing and have installed speakers before.

hmm, how do u pop out the rear seats? is it similar to taking out the front? Also, how do u actually connect/mount the speakres? is there adapters needed, cable cutting, etc.. I was gonna get a $100 pair of like boston acoustics for the back or something.
Actually front stage are more importsnt. HOWEVER.. you should upgrade.....look for something more effecient that plays loud something that rates at least 94 DB @1w1m
I have done the rear speakers and it is not hard to do but you do have to take apart the back of the XB. If you have the time take a look at our 6.5" speakers. The most important thing is to enjoy your system.
I left my rear spkrs, but have them hooked to my Kenwood amp. I still had to run the wires up . I removed the bolts for the cargo straps(?), cover trays for the sparetire and my sub(it's now the foam tray) and the panel that covers the latch. I pulle dthe panels aside and used a right angle driver to reach the screws for the spkrs. Stereo installers learn all the tricks!
have you checked out any scosche universal 5/14 toyota speaker adapter rings? I am sure they would work just fine.
Or you could just disconnect the rear speakers. They really won't contribute anything to the SQ.
Best of luck

You know, the fitment really depends on what speakers you want. If you're going with 5.25 Boston coaxials in the rear, you might have to cut the hole out a little to fit the basket through. They are extremely bright and clear though, but "sound quality" is mostly personal preference anyways.
Anyways, to remove the rear speakers you have to do three main things:
1) Take out the cargo area and spare tire.
2) Unbolt the rear seats from the bar that holds them in place. There are 4 10mm bolts that hold them in place. (They might be 12mm... I can't remember).
3) Unbolt the two side panels. The rear speakers just unscrew, so you don't have to worry about rivets.

OK, just remove the rear speakers as described. (Pull rear foam baskets, spare tire, etc, remove hex bolts and the rear trim piece.) Remove the speakers.
IF you are going to replace with 5.25" speakers, then remove the stock speaker from the frame. Use tin snips to cut the magnet away (the spokes are all cut). Remove the cone with a mat knife. Do some final trimming of the spoke removal area and you are ready to fit the new speakers. Oh, be sure to save the wiring harness attached to the factory speaker. Cut the wire as close to the cone as possible and resolder to the new speaker. That way you use the factory wires without any cutting.
5.25" speakers will fit perfectly and self tapping sheet metal screws will screw into the circular groove area to hold them in place. Piece of cake and you save the cost of the adapter and wiring harness adapter, about 40.00 with shipping!!
I used Sony 3 ways and they actually sound good. I also tapped in the wiring harness for the subwoofer into these speakers as well.
