Are you wanting the hardwired Scion factory unit ($200)or a PNP (plug and play, $50-250) unit?

Yeah that's the unit I have, it's pretty nice. I also have the Xact Visor (wife's car).

Depending on where you live, you may want to get the wired FM modulator ($20). Greatly increases sound quality by removing static from FM stations.

Related to this thread, I wish to install XM in my xB. I have a 2004 model and wonder what is required to do so?

Again, you have the same options with XM, either factory hardwire or PNP.

Installing the PNP is quite simple, a basic job can be done in 30 minutes. It gets a little tougher if you do a custom mounting, but xB's have so many good spots that it's not too tricky. I haven't installed a factory unit yet, but it looks a bit harder as there's more interior to remove.

This is a sensitive topic for me because I searched high and low to see if I could have XM installed with my iPod connection and the only place that can do it is... the dealer. I have no idea what they have or what sort of part and/or splitter is needed, but to control both through the head unit I'd need some sort of miracle piece.

I have both installed, but I have the XM hooked into the aux port for sound quality purposes (FM modulation is just a weak sound). The problem, of course, being that I have wires running everywhere.

You can get an FM-modulated player for extremely cheap (I think if you go XM you can get the new Roady xT for around 50 bucks at Circuit City or Best Buy) and it will work on any vehicle with a cigarette lighter port (9v adapter? I think..) and an FM radio.

If you want it hard-wired (strongly recommended) then it gets much pricier.

Default My neat trick

I mounted a Starmate above my rear view mirror and it sits up nest to the headliner. Looks very good I made a little metal bracket and used the screw on back of the bracket for the receiver and loosened my mirror mount, slid the bracket down under the mirror mount and tightened it back down, Then I ran my wires behind the receiver and popped the receiver bracket over them , twisted them together and punched all the wires up under the headliner and across to the post on the driver's side and pushed them out of sight all the way down to the fuse box and hard wired everything in. It took a little time but it looks awesome, like it was meant to be that way. May be I can post some pics later of how well it looks. I live in the mountains and use a low frequency station and I only have minor problems with signal loss, 95% of the time it works great and I already know the only area I have problems is at the top of the mountain before I drop down into the flatlands where even the radio picks up everything but what it should. I think I can live with it just fine for those couple of miles.

Hardwired is the only way to go for both clarity and lack of clutter.

Where has everyone mounted their antenna? When I had mine mounted on my old car I found 2 rust spots underneath it and the paint was scratched. I dont want this happening on my xB. If there is a way to hide it somewhere where it will still get a strong signal that would be great too.

My antenna is on the roof in the back, right in front of the spoiler. It has a pretty strong magnet, but I didn't want it riding on my paint, so I put some double-sided foam tape under it. Tape is easier to remove than scratches through the clearcoat.

my antenna is behind the fog light cover in the bumper. I get the same reception as when I had the antenna on the roof.

Il try putting it behind the fog light cover and see what my reception is like. Thanks for the idea.
