installing speakers in the front doors.....
do you need special brackets? i talked to several audio places here in vegas and they all mentioned making special brackets that will cost an additional $50... whats the deal with this?

you dont need brackets whatsoever. All you need is a pair of 6.5" speakers, a drill to mount the speakers, 4 screws and anything you want to use to punch out the factory speaker. Id post pix but i dont have any of my install. Just cut out the part where the woofer cone meets the plastic mount and walah. Drill your 4 screws into the plastic.

I'm not in favor of destroying the stock speakers, at all.
Oddly enough, aftermarket sound systems don't necessarily increase the value of a used car, at all. They can even detract from it.
Chances are good, however, that those aftermarket components will have value if sold separately, or if carried over to the next car... the wiring can simply be abandoned, for the most part, tucked under the carpets or behind the dash, and all the stock stuff re-installed if things were done right in the first place...
Commercial and DIY solutions are available. Tanakasan graciously mailed me the patterns for the front and dash speaker adapters, which I have yet to install, and I plan on contributing patterns for the rears whenever the weather comes around.
It's been a particularly brutal winter here in Denver... and I don't have a garage...

i agree with shadowbox, i did the same thing, i punched out the old speaker and then mounter a 6 inch alpine component woofer in it, then reinstalled, it looks factory, you put the door panel back on and you can't even tell. worked awesome.
