you could also get one of those FM transmitter deals- plus the deck reads MP3's so why leave your iPod in the car? One more thing they can steal...

If you wait, Pioneer will be releasing their iPod adapter soon. Hopefully by this Summer. It will also likely be offered as a Scion accessory at the dealer. The adapter is suposedly going to allow you to control the iPod from the headunit as well as displaying track information on the headunit's screen. I know Pioneer has a press release about it somewhere on their site.

DO NOT GET AN FM TRANSMITTER. I have one in my car (not a TC, but still) and it SUCKS. The radio sounds better than this FM transmitter. It is staticy and you can hear the ipod's hard drive spin up through the radio when you change songs. Sounds like a really high pitched squeal.

i connect my ipod to my PIE input adapter on the stock single disk cd player. it does the job. it doesn't display the song name and all that, but i don't care, i know all the songs on my ipod and i don't want to be distracted by checking the song name when i should be paying attention to the road. i just put it on random, sounds great, way better than an fm modulator

Default Head unit control all the way.

IMHO, you should definitely get something that offers iPod control via head unit. DensionUSA makes one called the IceLink, and there's another kind available at mp3yourcar.com. Cassette adapters suck, and FM transmitters are even worse. They're not even a viable option in places like Philadelphia, where the radio spectrum is nearly maxed out.

I've got an IceLink in my '01 Celica, connected to the stock head unit. It uses the CD changer port and just fools the head unit into thinking it's controlling a CD changer. The sound is great. The best part is you can run the cable wherever you want-- I ran mine to the console storage compartment above the stereo so nobody even knows an iPod is in the car. Before that I had one of the PIE adapters that gives you RCA input jacks, but it was a pain to control the iPod. I used an RF remote, and the buttons had terrible tactile feedback-- it was very distracting to try to skip forward or backward. With the IceLink, I just hit the head unit's Track+ or Track- button without needing to fumble for a remote and feel for the correct button.

I take delivery on a new xA tomorrow, and I'm looking at the product from mp3yourcar.com for it. The DensionUSA web site is currently a mess-- some pages show they offer(ed) a connection kit for Scion vehicles, but clicking those links brings up an error.

Track info on the head unit display is nice, but not really necessary-- I have a 1,200-song+ playlist of high-rated tracks and I just play that on shuffle mode when I'm in the car.

FYI- I sent an email to Pioneer and asked them if their ipod adapter is compatible with the OEM head unit in my 05 xb and they told me that the adapter does not work with OEM stereos and is for after market units only. Anyone heard any different???

completely correct... here is a pic of it from CES

it will work with any Pioneer aftermarket deck with IP Bus which is something Pioneer has had since the 80s...

offers complete control over the iPod and some have said doesnt have the current limitation that the Kenwood and Alpine adapters had of 255 songs...also the advantage of this setup over the other connectors I've seen here is that it comes out of the Line Out not the headphone jack...Also will display track information on the unit..

Damn, I didn't know the Pioneer adapter wouldn't work with the OEM units.

There had been mention of a car adapter for Scion at MacWorld Expo, but nothing seems to be solidifying.

Just go with the Alpine and KCA adaptor. The ONLY downside to it is that it scrolls songs at a rate of about 1 per second. Are you really that lazy to pass up a trusted name that you KNOW will out perform the rest?

Alpine. You can work around the slow scrolling by making playlists of the albums you frequently listen to, as it's a lot quicker to scroll playlists than artists/albums.

Those type things are crappy. The sound quality is terrible if they work at all.
