Default JL 12w7 vs Orion H2 12.4

What sub would i want if I bought one? The Orion seems to have better specs but the JL is two times the price, why? Is it just becuz the NAME... JL...? If the JL is better what would be better, One JL w7 or 2 Orion H2 12.4 since itd be around the same price.

I kno a decent amount about subs but what exactly is the difference between 1,2,3,4 OHMS

If I get the JL w7, I'll prolly get the JL 1000/1, but if I get the Orions, what amp would I want to give it the best power for one, or 2 if I did get 2. THX!

Well, judging by your post, I'm gonna say you're not into car audio very far..... so I'm gonna guess you want it to be loud loud and sound pretty good..... in that case, I'd get the 2 orions...if you were going for just SQ, I'd say JL....

the ohm reading is just the amount of resistance the sub has to the power coming in...with a lower resistance, your amp will be able to push more power to it....however, too low of a resistance will blow your amp.... the reason there are so many different ohm patterns is for wiring flexibility.... you can take 2 SVC 2ohm subs and make a 1 ohm or 4 ohm mono load from them or a 2ohm stereo load....same as a single DVC 2ohm sub...
www.the12volt.com and www.carstereo.com can tell you alot about subs and wiring...

With that 1500, do you want to only do sub(s) and amp or have you thought about components and an additional amp??

thanks tc875

if you wanted to go with jl audio,

estimated prices,
$450 = 12w7
$650 = 1000/1
$80 will get you the jl audio amp connection kit (XA-PCS2-2) the kit is for 2 amps... you can send me the extra wires

and with the 220 you can build a custom box.

Orion H2 12.2 (dual 2 ohm)
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=2212
$350
Hifonics mono 2000w amp
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=2427
$370

Hifonics amp for components
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...Product_ID=223
$170

awesome CDT components
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=3080
$250

that leaves you with $350 for wiring and sub box....

BTW: with this setup, you'd leave the rear speakers factory and only hooked to the CD player..... this would give you some great sound....

I guess your $1500 budget flew out the window huh???

As for components, you will probably not be able to hear them with 2 13W7's.

Good luck with the system.

IMHO 2 13 w7's is WAY TOO MUCH. You'll need 3000 - 4000 watts to power both speakers and pretty much your whole car's worth of air space. 1 13 w7 is sick, 2 is a waste of money.

3-4000 would be overkill....1250 per sub will work perfectly....

don't forget what you'll need to upgrade in order for those watts to actually comeout of the amp.... extra battery and a rewound or competition alternator should be top of the list..... along with vehicle wiring upgraded to 2 ga. and the 0 ga. for the amp's power/ground..... I think the project just doubled the budget.....

I've seen that diagram before, and I've seen a 13 w 7 barely move from a 1000.1. The shop ended up installing 2 1000.1's 1 per voice coil. The 13 w 7 is the only dual voice coil 7 series. Agreed on all the other points you made.

BTW...I'm not saying that 4000 to a pair would hurt them... JL's have always been able to handle a lot of extra power.... all I'm saying is that 2500 to the pair will work very well, be dang loud, and not be quite as much $$$

I want my setupt o look hott... Instead should I just get 1 13w7, put it in a wedge box, face it up towards the roof with a false floor so it looks just like the subs there by itself u kno? Just use the Orion 2500 N' throw about 1900 watts to it? Is the wedge box loud or should I go ported? I like the sealed boxes better but wut would a ported box do for me besides take up a ____load of space...
