Default JVC any good?

I was looking into getting this in-dash dvd by JVC:

http://www.savinglots.com/lotprod.asp?item=KWAVX706

Was wondering if anyone has had any experience with any other JVC audio/video car products. THX

i had the kd-avx1, picture was great, sound was mid level.

Problems: The faceplate would get stuck sometimes and wouldn't close all the way causing the deck to eject the disc. MP3 load times were CRAZY slow, I'm talking you hit the button and up to 5 seconds later it would change.

I've heard various models having various problems, general consensus seems to be "ooooh," followed by "awww." Nice looks, mediocre performance.

I installed a JVC EXAD KX-8500 in my XB about a month ago. I'm pleased with the performance, and the SD card slot is a plus. I have a 2gig card with about 15 albums on it. Cool graphics as well. Download pics also.

Sound quality is very good. Clean design with an easy interface/controls. Hey, a volume ****!!

I decided against the AVX-1 (and the AVX-2) because I have heard the audio could be better and do I REALLY need to watch videos in my car? On a 2 1/2" screen? Nice bling but not very practical. Also, no volume know. The old XB stock unit ('05)really sold me on having a volume **** vs. buttons.

The 8500 also has 2 aux imputs (one uses the CD changer imput) I currently have my XM roady using one imput and I'm going to install another imput with a front jack in the dash for my PSP or any other imput. (future video?)

I've got the JVC KD-SHX700 in my Ranger and the JVC KD-AV7010 in my xB. I love them both. no problems. if I have only one complaint that would be the screen on the 7010 is very reflective so when the sun hits it, it gets washed out a little. also fingerprints are seen on the screen. it's got a remote though.

I agree with the sun problem. I'm even going to make a little "visor" for the head unit. I think you will have that problem with a lot of head units as it does sit high in the XB dash compared to a typical sedan/vehicle.

Fingerprints/scratches are a problem with any unit you buy. I use a "Fellows" universal screen protector cut to fit. Works for your PSP/Ipod as well.

I work at Best Buy in the install bay and I've seen more JVC products come back for service than any other brand. The usual problem is the disc mechanism breaks and the disc gets stuck in the unit.

HOWEVER, this is only for the standard series JVC models, not arsenal or exad series, which are both of slightly higher quality than the standard jvc models. In any case, I'm not huge on extended warranties but I'd definitely get one on a JVC product if I ever bought one.

On the features/sq side JVC has always been mediocre compared to alpine, eclipse, kenwood, and even pioneer...but that price is quite good for a touch-screen so if you're just looking for some affordable bling it's a much better choice than something like a pyle or pyramid screen.

I dont think that it is a touch screen. Doesnt say if it is, so I am guessing that it isnt. Mainly because they usually say touch screen as being one of the features.

I don't have any specific experience with Panasonic mobile products but their flat-panel tvs are awesome. Kenwood has always been a good bet in my book...but you should be good with either unit...I'd take either over a JVC any day.

JVC has gotten better over the years with its defects, when i started a C.C. 5 years ago we had JVC's come in daily with problems, now its a rare event they come in with a problem. The only problem we get is like you said about CD getting stuck in the radio, and you know what 75% of the time fixes that, holding the SEL button and the Power button down at the same time for 3-5 sec.'s and resetting it, works like a charm. Now back on subject.

That's good to know!...I never knew how to reset JVC decks (although i'm sure it's in the owner's manual)...I always just unplugged them and plugged them back in.

I just installed a JVC KD-DV4200 and love it for the price...I am running a 7inch Power Acoustik in the dash and a 9.5inch roof mount flip down...Got it at www.millionbuy.com
