Default Keyless entry

Don't know if this was mentioned before, but the keyless entry remote on the tC is built into the head of the key. It is a different design than what is on the Land Cruiser or the Lexus models. It tapers towards the key end, instead of being kind of square. What does everybody think about this?

Hhh, is that similar to that Lexus commercial where this guy was walking toward his sweet looking black LS430 and without touching anything, the doors unlock, trunk can be popped open? If that is the case, sweet!!

No, that would be sweet, but its just a regular keyless entry remote built into the key.

fr130,

The type of keyless entry in the Lexus commercial is called "Smart Key".
This is where you carry a special fob (with no keys) in your pocket or purse and when you are near the car, you just press a small button on either the trunk or the door handle (in the commercial you can see a small black button on the driver's door handle). The car sends out a signal checking for the "Smart Key" which in turn sends a signal back which will unlock the car.
This "Smart Key" system can also be had on the 2004 Toyota Prius, and is very cool.
Unfortunately it is not what will be available on the tC.

As jordanscion said, the tC will have its keyless remote built right into the head of the key, rather than having a separate fob for it.

It should look something like this:

i was on TIS this afternoon reading the owners manual for the tC that i guess was released a couple days ago. the head of the key is kind of tear dropped shaped with the same kind of key formation on those funky nokia phones.

Also... I have another question: Will we be able to open the trunklid/hatch from inside the car and/or on the key? My Cavalier's trunk can't be opened unless I take the keys out, go to the back of the car, and open the trunk with the key

I don't think the key will open the hatch. Also I like that the buttons are on the key itself. Don't have to keep track of TWO items like I do on my Highlander.

I actually remember reading that the tC would have a power release hatch from the keyless entry. I am hoping so b/c my 96 Camry is the same way....it unlocks the doors and turns the alarm off...but i have to actually put the key in the trunk to open it.

That is an image of the key diagram from the owner's manual.

1. Indicator LED
2. Unlock
3. Lock
4. Panic Mode (All outside lights flash, interior lights activate, and the horn beeps for one minute)

The Rupp,

Sorry for any confusion regarding the multifunction key. I used the 04 Accord key picture because it was easily attainable.

Here is a picture of a Lexus "Remote Master" Multifunction Key:

For reference, I have held both the Accord and Lexus keys and I can tell you that the Lexus key is much smaller than the Accord key.

Lastly, when I was at the Auto Show, I was able to get a Scion CD containing Super Hi-Res (3000 x 2500 dpi) tC pictures. They are the same that pictures that are on Toyota's Pressroom site, but there is a good shot of the key in the ignition. When I get home tonight I will post the picture to give everyone a better idea of the actual size of the key.

Cypher50,

Thanks for post/diagram. Great being all in ONE key.

As a side note, my Highlander remote key has the "lock" button at the top whereas the tC has the lock button at the bottom. So much to keep track of....

I am sure I will be unlocking when trying to lock and vice versa.

If I may add, the Prius FOB has a thin key that slides out, very small, very convenient for jogging or the beach, it will unlock the drivers door only, also in case of electrical failure.

So Keyless Entry is not the same as having an alarm system correct :?: Because on the Accessories list it has "Security" as an option, but usually keyless entry comes with an Alarm?? I'm just wondering what is stardard and what is not.
If there is no Alarm, i guess i'm going to start looking for some, top choice would be Clifford Matrix with Remote Start, unless there are other opinions about this.

You are correct. Keyless entry allows the car to be locked/unlocked without inserting a key. Also has a panic key which makes the horns/lights go off. Good if you can't find your car or feel unsafe.

Ok so if i get an After Market Security system that comes with the Keyless entry, would the installer have to somehow bypass the keyless entry that comes with the tC? how does that work? or can i just get an alarm without keyless entry? most of the After Market alarms (ie Clifford Matrix) that i've seen come with keyless entry. ahh i'm a bit confused haha. I just dont want to mess up my car and i dont want to get ripped off by the alarm installer person. They might add on some stuff i don't really need. k thanks for the reply. oh yah, Read my "After Market Security System" Thread as well so i can get some more feedback on this. ok thanks :D

Good question. I do not know. Hopefully we have other experts in this forum that can answer. "Cliffy" from Springfield Scion should know.
