Line Out Converter Crap For Components
Well I have had numerous CD Decks in my tC. Unfortunately there all Single Din which sucks because it looks like ___ and I still do not have a stereo kit for it yet. Well right now I have a Nak 35z in my tC running yo my SS Van Gogh amps and thought of trying to use the factory Pioneer deck because I wanted the stock look. Well it didn't work. I purchased a Line Out Converter and Toyota Reverse Harness from both Best Buy and Circuit City(bought different brands to see if one was better than the other). Hooked it up and its horrible. The amount of engine whine, radio static and the amp pops when u first turn on the ignition. I was hoping I would have better luck because I really wanted the factory unit but it didn't work. Just trying to save people time and money by giving my opinion. For people that use the line out converter for subs only it probably works fine, but for components in the front or rear the speakers produce every little noise in the system. I am not new to this so I do know how to hook it up in case anyone was wondering.
Hopefully some quallity companies come out with a double din cd player and not an in dash TV(I'm poor).

The other problem you are dealing with is the dreaded DSP eq curves built into most OEM head units now. DSP has become so cheap that it's more cost-effective to build in eq curves that compensate for the limited performance of the $1 speakers they put in cars. When you add aftermarket products the EQ and the speakers don't match so the sound is less than you'd expect. With SCION, it not really a big deal to switch the radio, but in many cars, it's not an option.
I installed a system in my TC using the OEM deck. I am having issues with the DSP and how bad it sounds with my new speakers (especially with SIRIUS). I don't want to add an aftermarket radio because so few of them are actually upgrades and the often look "funky". One possible solution to the problem is to add a 30 band EQ to the outputs. After I analyze the outputs, with an RTA I could make corrections by doing the opposite of the OEM curve. This would send a flat signal to my amps. There are two problems that remain:
Much of the EQ is volume dependant (low frequency attenuates when volume increases)
Each channel has it's own curve (I would need four 30 band EQ's).
Although I have no noise problems, I am waiting for a solution that is coming soon to make it sound better.
