Default Line Output Converter Wiring Question

When installing a line output converter to the stock head unit of a tc, the converter needs power right? The converter I bought has a black cord coming out of it but the instructions do not say what it is for. I'm assuming that it is a power lead. If so, where can I tap it into?

line output converters don't need power. the black wire is to be grounded only if you get no output. in 99% of the time you won't need the black wire. just tape it up.

Thanks. I was also wondering what speaker (+ or -) each wire color stands for on the harness to the head unit?
