Default Mount touchscreen in dash flip down storage compartment help

I am thinking of installing a 7" motorized touchscreen in the dash flip down storage compartment. Any one install something like a dvd player or radio or touchscreen in this section on the dash before? Before I order the touchscreen for 500.00 I was wondering if it would fit or not. Thanks for you help in advance.

you'll have to cut out the back of the pocket and the air duct behind it. Not fitting any other way than that. cuz we just did a dvd player in an xB. Have fun.

All I can tell you about what to watch out for is the length in the back to the front. I could not install in inside the compartment. I have to install it with the face out as the air ducts are not far behind.

very nice PeaBeJ. how's the unit working for ya? any bad glares? (eg. certain angle of viewing)

would you happen to have a pic of what you did to cut out the back of the pocket and air duct behind it?

i haven't gotten the lcd unit yet so i can't tell how much protrusion it would be to the back...

ps. i noticed the pic that you still have the "oven" cover. did you cut it so it covers the gaps? or is that an illusion?

Thanks for the kind words. I am very happy with the way it came out as I have never done anything like that before. If you catch the sun just right it can be hard to see. I am going to install a Garmin USB receiver on the computer and make it a navigation system. Yes I cut the oven cover to fit, so that there was no gap. All I cut on the back was the oven itself far enough up, so that the unit would like in. I just used a hack saw to make the cut. I bought a dremel tool to make the cut in the oven door itself. I did not have to cut the duct. It is very close and I think if the unit was a 1/8 inch longer I would have had to cut the duct to make it fit. I am very sorry that I did not take pictures from the start to finish.
