My first SPL contest
The mic was on the windshield by the passenger side A pillar. I placed my box so the speakers were facing the rear door about 8 inches away. I am thinking maybe the next time folding down the rear seats and put the box closer to the dash and facing it forward.
IASCA and USACi events seem to be the only ones that have any real stipulations as to location of the meter in reference to the source.
With that enclosure, you really should be aiming the vent at the meter if you want to compete in SPL. Granted, it is NOT going to bump you 10db, but it may mean a 1 or 2 db difference, depending on the placement of the mic.
Also, what are you using to get your tone? This makes a HUGE difference if you know what frequency the box is specifically tuned for. There are several test CDs that do 5-10 sec. test tones that step in 1Hz increments. Running a test tone at the peak of the frequency range will definitely net you a higher average. I have a few IASCA test CDs that I could probably torrent if you want to dl them.

At the Clash shows they follow a set of rules similar to IASCA and USACi. The Microphone is placed in the same spot for all cars but you can play any CD/Song you wish. If I am not mistaken, he is using an AudioControl setup and it is calibrated often.
Keep your box facing the hatch, and put the mic in the passanger floor board. in the corner. I have been competing for a little while now. Its fun. I just wish I had my power situation fixed. I need another battery and 0 gauge power wires. My amp is 2000 Watts, but I aint getting enough power to it to truely show my sub potential. If you wann continue competeing, I say do it. Its just fun.

Gardiner was compete in the legal class
And yes like BOXROD Said
Jim and his crew run very similar rules to IASCA and USACi and it is a AudioControl setup
