My spare tire well SUB install.
Looks good!! Did you do fiberglass or just MDF? Don't let anyone bring ya down talking about protecting the sub, you probably already have a solution for that if you managed to build that enclosure. How does it sound pointing straight up like that?

When I still had mine set up that way in my xA, I simply put one of those waffle cone style speaker grills on the sub. . . worked fine to protect the woofer. . . sticky tape will be more than enough to secure the grill.
MDF , not open air. I dont know the exact cubic foot but it is the same as the sealed box I had it in before. The sound is the same as when it was mounted facing the rear. I never carry anything in the back so I wont have an issue.
Here is my quickee paint sketch.
The spare tire well is not in the center of the car it sits to the left. I mounted the box to the bottom using the spare tire screw that holds the tire down. I compressed the box between foam and the body of the car. The extra length on the top of the box is to prevent the floor from sagging on the sides due to the fact that the styrofoam compartments are now gone.

On a side note looks like a good installation.
It was the first thing to come to mind!
LOTS of people rollerblade here in Chicagoland.
But I guess to be technically correct, it's called "Inline Skate".
Looking at his drawing, it's a technically well done install.
I just can't imagine having all that trunk space, and putting
a wee sub right in the middle of the floor wasting all that space.
If you don't mind using the space, USE IT!
But that's just me. Props for a well done install!!

Why not do a false floor and move the sub more towards the front of the vehicle. Then you don't sacrifice the entire cargo area with the sub being right in the middle. Oh, and I've seen several like that, as well as done two installs like it myself. I like the sub in the floor, though I prefer to cut an opening in the mdf, then mount the sub on a second piece of MDF below that one (stacking pieces of mdf) so when I put a grille on it, it's flush with the rest of teh floor. One thing though, screw the grille on, don't adhere it with sticky tape as suggested above. Besides being ghetto, if you get any volume at all it's coming off, and you've got a grille flying around the car.
Ill say it again....not putting on a grill.
I did use 2 pieces of MDF for the top to give the sub extra support. There is a rubber seal under the screw and the entire box is sealed with liquid nails.
This is my first attempt at a sub enclosure.
