Default My system... a little agrivated

Okay so heres the deal I found out from someone tonight that various dealers and possibly a few audio companies have contacted a certain someone (who will go nameless I dont want to jeopardize his company) to ask if he could make copies of my speaker enclosure to mass produce and sell them.

At first I thought it was kinda cool maybe get some cash for selling the design but know that I have thought about it, im kinda ____ed off about it. I had ALOT of input and design ideas to get that box together and alot of work went into it as well. It just makes me mad that people have no respect for someone that tries to have something a little different I mean honestly good luck on making a mold of my box its not completely hollow inside so I dont even know how you could but still if you were able to atleast get the shape.

Im sorry but im venting. Especially since lately I have been going to alot of shows and with scions its always a close race to see how is on top now if this did happen I would have I dont know how many people running around with the same setup it is one thing to get ideas from someone and modify them to fit your taste but to make a exact copy is just rediculous.

Okay im done venting thanx for reading.

You should really have input on whether or not your box gets copied or not... it was a CUSTOM box...

There is a good chance however that the shop you got your work from respects you as a customer, and will respect your wishes to not have it made as a mass produced unit...

but hey if they are going to offer you a certain amount of money to make it...
you can always ask them to make you another custom one...

Its not the shop that built it that was contacted. It was someone completly different.

Your enclosure doesn't really look THAT original, i've seen a few boxes that look like that(not in an xb mind you, but I've seen similar enclosures). Maybe I'm not seeing what you're talking about. Care to explain?

I know it may look like other enclosures Im not saying its the only one in the world. I am saying its not some mass produced box that alot of people will have alot of work went into it and its not just some slapped together enclosure thats all buddy.

Well, everything that is mass produced came from an original idea, buddy. It sucks for you sure, but it's not anyone elses fault.

And what's the difference if they worked to make it, or if they worked to pay for it? They still worked for it.

I don't understand... you should be happy that something you helped design is going to be produced on a larger scale so more people can enjoy it. You should have gotten a patent if you wanted exclusivity.

When was it that your heard me blame someone I am just curious really? I think its good for people to take ideas and mold them into something that is there own. I just dont want a exact copy of mine made thats all im saying. If you worked to make something that was original and someone just copied it you would probably be fustrated too.

I can understand being upset that someone wants to copy your design but you have to realize this happens with EVERYTHING. Once someone see's something they are going to copy it or modify it. The true test is if you are the type of person that can stay on top by redesigning and coming up with something newer.

its not that unique, it maybe the first in a scion, but there are tons of systems out there just like that, same with mine.

Default Custom, or Serial Number One

There is a big difference. Custom is when you originate the design and pay all of the costs to produce the first unit with an agreement that the design documents etc are your property at the conclusion of the transaction. Many call this the Lost Mold process of developing an enclosure. It sounds like the original shop is respectful of your unique rights concerning the product, and even brought you into the discussion loop.

What usually happens is you find out the hard way by encountering your enclosure in another ride, with no knowledge of how it happened.

i saw your XB on cardomain a few days ago, and when i saw it, i was like......."thats almost the same box i made for my 97 Eclipse" LOL..... i had 3 10's glassed into the tire well, but i had a 6inch port in the center...kinda like a volcano effect.
looks good, but think about it............it a shop starts mass producing that box....all of the Scion owners that want to be ORIGINAL (isn't that why we bought a Scion in the 1st place?) won't buy it, because anyone can get thier hands on it! that makes it not original..........if they starts making that box for everyone to buy..... i would rip it out, and design something else.....but thats just me!!!!

Here's a tip. You aren't being original by purchasing a mass produced vehicle.
