Default Need help- how did you route your satellite radio antenna?

Got a sirius setup. Antenna would work best if I could get it to the outside of the car. How to do that past the hatch seal without a leak? I tried with my other car (Mazdaspeed Protege), but no matter how I did it the trunk seal leaked. Mounted it on the rear deck inside the car and it works fine.

Can't do that on the TC, though. What's a guy to do?

Many folks are placing it next to the AM/FM antenna. The base of the Pioneer Sirius tuner (SIR-PNR1) is magnetic. I made a little groove in the sheetmetal that the hatch seal sits on, like this:

Cover it up with some electrical tape for the cable to sit in to avoid any possibility of abrading the cable. Anchor the cable in the hatch channel using a piece of the rubber channel cover supplied in the tuner kit, like this:

Then run the cable down the inside of the hatch wall and out the bottom, along the floor and under the back seat at the passenger side corner. There's a nifty area there to run any cabling. Looks like this:

Under the back seat, under the carpet and along the passenger side wall to the door sill. Pop the molding and you'll find some wiring already in clips for your cable-routing pleasure.

Run it up the kick panel and under the carpet in front of the passenger foot well and behind the dash.

That's assuming you've put the tuner there...like the perfect place on top of the ABS module. If you've put it under the seat or in the glove box...just make adjustments for that by making a small slit in the carpet at the passenger seat or popping it in the back of the glovebox, respectively.

It's late and I've probably abbreviated some of this. If you need further clarification, just drop me a note and I'll be happy to help out. I spent about three hours on the antenna install but I'm way too **** about things like this and like a clean set up. One other thing, by doing it this way, you can also drop the magetic base down into the hatch channel and close the hatch if you were parking your car and didn't want to advertise you've spent some money on a system (YES - it will work fine and you won't smash anything in there!). See!:

Good luck!!!

ok i work for circuit city so i have plenty of experience with running the antennas. I mounted my antenna on my hatch at the base of the glass in the middle, pulled up the edge of the rubber seal and ran it along that to the driver side and then went into the hatch and under the plastic hatch panel up to the top. then went under the seal and down the the interior and along the piece that seperates the roofliner and side panels. if i get a chance i will take some pics cause i need to take some pics of my stereo setup.

Personally with my XM antenna i didn't screw with any of this. Why run in all the way through the car and rip it apart when you can get a clean signal by just mounting it on top of the radio underneath the dash? Then again maybe the Sirius antenna is larger. I don't know but on top of the radio worked for me and it was very quick as well.

Good reception? Mine right now is on top of the dash and the signal is not good- fine on the highway, but I lose it on the back roads due to the trees.

Same problem living in a city. These tall metal and concrete structures play havoc with signal. Stickin' it behind the dash isn't an option - I wish it were! If you can get a good spot out toward the back where your antenna cable is all uncoiled and the base sitting up high, you're better off. Twzted has a nice setup and idea as well.
