Default Need opinions on subs and electrical set up....

Well I WILL get a scion this summer since parents were going to buy a 4wd car for themselves (but I didnt need it so the keep the baja)

Anyways......

I was wondering what would sound the better (quality and enough bass to make my mirror shake) I was either looking at the jl audio 12w3v2 subs (x3) or Kicker Solo-Baric L5 02S15L5 (pretty sure 3 15 inchers should fit). I got some questions though

Should I get 2 ohm or 4 ohm subs? Whats the difference?

Can I hook up an amp to the stock pioneer head unit? If not I already have a Pioneer DEH-P850MP head unit.

What type of amp should I buy to power these suckers up? Also how do I go about connecting three subs with one amp? I only have 1 sub drive on MY pioneer head unit, but also have 3 RCA jacks, but I have been told to use the direct sub drive.

What type of speakers and amp set up should I use to replace the stock speakers in the car. I am probably going to use 2 amps.

We have 2 12" MTX sledgehammers in our Box and it is overkill. 3 12" or 3 15" is more than just Mirror shake . Our system makes the roof bulge over an inch running off the stock head unit (yes you can run it off the stock one) to a 5 farad cap into a MTX 202 which boosts the signal to the 1501 running @ i believe 1 ohm.

With our roof bulging at 45 on the stock head unit I would cringe to think what 3 15s would do. Besides what Amp is going to run 3 15 inch Kickers? I would think you would need at least 3 600 watt amps for that set up, but I sell cars not install stereos.

After fine tuning our system hit 141 SPL at the dashboard at 60 on Feel. Aftermarket headunit makes a huge difference by the ability to better fine tune and control your bass.

I wouldn't recommend either. For loudness/quality, I'd go with a single 12" subwoofer in a slot vented enclosure with about 500wRMS tune it to about 30hz and have a fun time.

If you do it right, you will be amazed, as will others.

a single jl audio 12 w7 and a zapco ref. 750 would do the job very nicely
that should flex the roof top and leaves you room in the hatch for a cooler :D

A w7 would defenitely get the house rocking, 'specially with 1000w rms to a 12. My PG Ti 10's will be getting 'bout 300 rms and they will rock.

I have these 2 MOMO 12s with one MTXThunder801D and you can hear my xB rattle like crazy not much of a rattle than a thoing sound from the side panels. Metal so thin that you can see it flex side to side as the bass hits. HAHAHA greenbean and I were acutally comparing the noise outside our cars with the door closed last sunday...ofcors greenbean has a wall of 4 12s in his camo xB.

I'm acutally in the process of adding 100 feet of deadener in the entire cab so watch out for my DIY post soon.

decent SPL are too much for my blood can't really expect to bump hard when your son is on the back seat....granted he was born with cars with subs....funny thing he sleeps faster when there's bass.....

ok I see your point, so I probly will be running my pioneer head unit with 2 1,000 watt 15 inch kickers powered by a 2 1,000 watt amps (I bet there is a thing out there to get both amps hooked up the the 1 sub drive)

Where did you come up with that? 3 x 10 is more equal to 2 x 12's in cone area.

Run one subwoofer, vented. It will be much louder and deeper than the 2 sealed. Run one 1200w RMS or so amp. You'll be happy, I promise.

well anything over 1200 watts rms and the stock electrical starts to lose dip greatly in voltage. i have a yellow top up front and one in the back as well as the magic 3 and my voltage doesn't drop below 14.0 volts with about 2000 watts rms. it also depends on the effieciency of the amps as well. but a ho alternator would also be a good choice in upgrading your electrical system.

I got my Xb in the shop right now. I'm getting 4-10" USD subs put in a sealed box (partial plexiglass with 20 red LEDs inside). CDT's on all four doors and imaging tweeters on A pillars. Alpine headunit, 5.1 processor, and Digital EQ. I'm using Crossfire amps (2000 watts for subs, 800 watts for highs and mids). I'll have a bigger alternater and two yellow top Optima batteries, one in the engine compartment, and one in a custom built enclosure under the rear frame. I'm planning on competing for SQ and should be able to hit some respectable SPL levels along the lines of 145-150db (hopefully). I am the only Scion Xb registered in IASCA.

My 10's are getting between 300-325 watts rms and they make my hair shake enough. I'm competeing for sound quality in my area, but these babies get plenty loud for me! But quality of install is most important for me!
