ok so my factory unit is finally dying (its a 2004) and i wanted a reason to buy a aftermarket one with ipod controls.
i figure to spend about $500.00 and have narrowed it to 2 options.

Kenwood KVT-514 $479.00
dvd player
ipod controls
nav & blutooth expandiblity

Eclipse AVN-52D Package $549.00
dvd player
ipod controls
nav
blutooth

or i could just a regular unit with ipod controls for $150.00 and buy other goodies.

whatta ya think?

 

I think having a screen would be cool, but it makes it expensive.

If you have the money, go for the Kenwood.

 

ok, so i ordered the Eclipse AVN52D package and should get it by friday.
im gonna install it this weekend and will post pics.

Anyone else have this problem in the 04's?

 

i mean it still works but alot of times it will not spit out cd.
the volume up button sometimes dont work.
it's just an excuse for me to buy a new unit.

well, UPS dropped of the package today.
son of a motherless goat, this thing has alot of wires.
gotta find a place for the parrot blue tooth box and the ipod interface box.

all day project for tomorrow.

my 6 disk went in...oh...3-4 weeks stopped reading and changing CDs

 

finished installing the eclipse avn52d. took me about 4 hours cause the the wiring adapter didnt work and finding places for the parrot blue tooth box and the ipod box.

my review of the Eclipse AVN52D package

Pros:
dvd, nav, blutooth, ipod
sound quality is excellent
alot of options and expandability

Cons:
dvd quality is not that great. sometimes it seemstoo dark and has too much blue and red/orange colors. even after playing around with the color, tint, brightness, and contrast the video quality is ok at best.

overall for $550.00 i am happy with it. it makes the whole system (infinity reference all around and 10" kappa perfect sub) sound cleaner and louder. the sub hits alot harder.
