Default OEM headunit - will it play multisession discs?

I did a search and found folks having problems and others saying they work fine.

I have took the podcasts from NPR's Click and Clack (the Tappet Brothers) and pulled them off the pod and burned them to a CD-R with "finalize session, do not finalize disc". That played OK. Then the next week I dump the new show onto the same disc, finalize the session but not the disc. The OEM headunit only sees the first folder and/or first files, can't see the rest of the stuff I added. I tried a new folder, adding to existing folder, etc. I can try this in the others cars decks (mix of OEM and aftermarket) and see if it works in them or not.

I have the upgraded (ipod control, etc) OEM Scion Pioneer deck.

Should it work or not? I am using Roxio but have Nero and probably some other burning programs as well.

Thanks!
Dennis

On page 31 of the Scion Audio manual, it says "It is possible to play back multi-session compatible recorded discs". So it yes it is possible but I've never done this so I'm not sure how operate the head unit with a multi-session disc. I also don't know much about pod casts, but if they are just long mp3 files then you can sort them by keeping them in different folders. There is some information on this on page 32 of your manual.

Oh and this is just my opinion but, I use Nero and never had a bad burned disc using them. Try using Nero next time.

Thanks for the link, I didn't have the PDF of the radio manual.

On page 15 it says:

When playing back a disc recorded with the Multi Session system, the first session
only is played back

So I guess the answer is no?

A podcast is just data dumped onto the ipod via itunes so you can play it back on the ipod. I have a program that lets me pull it off the ipod as a normal MP3 file. The nearly 1 hour show is about 25.5 mb so one 700mb CD-R blank could hold a bunch of the shows - if the headunit could play back past the first session.

Thanks,
Dennis

The answer is no.

Why not use the iPod interface, that's what it's for.

I listen mostly to XM (SkyFi2) and to MP3 CD-Rs. Would you rather carry an expensive 80gb vido ipod around in the car or a CD-R blank that you paid next to nothing for? I use the pod for portable listening, but on a trip or something would use the interface to have any tune at my fingertips.

I guess i will just burn a show to each disc and then toss them when I am done.

You could also try a good CD-RW. Then you can just erase it and use it again.

I thought of that, but I never use them. I may have to check the current price, but I have stacks and stacks of CD-R blanks I got for dirt cheap - some for $0 after rebate.

FWW, the copy of Nero that I have installed at the office will not let me burn and NOT finalize the session. Must have been a free with the burner version. I will a purchased copy that I have on another machine, but I don't think it will work.

I use my tablet laptop for music through the AUX input... it's magnificent... 5,000 mp3s, movie audio, navigation audio - all plays through the stock speakers. this is awesome.

im so happy my little 15k car has such a useful feature ;]

Dang, must have missed page 15. Sorry to hear that it won't work. On different note, I have a tip about the ipod. The plastic area around the aux and ipod ports comes out easly if you pull up from the lip under the E break. This reveals a small hidden area that you can keep your ipod. Just remove the ipod port from the plastic piece and keep everything inside there and no thieves will be able to see it from the windows. Anyways, just a tip.
