Operation make box quieter
i am lining the entire inside of my box with sound deadening material. should get rid of a lot of road noise. so far i have gotten all the seats and fasteners out, next step is to remove the carpet, but i need to eat first. i will post more pics as the project progresses, if anyone has any pointers, please feel free to share...

just doing the doors makes a big, big difference, I'm waiting on tax returns to do my floor, under hood, engine bay, roof, fenders and everything else, but I deffinately want to see how you do yours and know the difference it makes

yea it does, and you only need to go to that kind of extreme if your goin to spl competitions, but painting everything with sound paint does help, especially with those areas behind the plastic, I'm probably gonna try and spray the inside, between the skins to help

There is a thread on completely stripping an xB-he goes through everything

3/4 of the way through on the floor, would be going faster, but you gotta make time for beer... i will post pics once i finish the bottom half before i replace all the carpet and plastics...

okay, i finally finished the floor. i doubled up on the back, there wasn't any sound deadening material there at all... monday i will do the doors, then maybe next weekend i will do the roof... i will post how much of a difference it made tomorrow... meanwhile, heres a pic...

i finally got it all put back together, and i didn't even have any spare parts left over, that's a first... i thought about knocking the doors out, but i pulled the cover off the driver's door and changed my mind, maybe tomorrow... as far as results, i haven't driven yet, but i started up and let it idle, revving the motor, definite decrease in sound and resonance. i can't wait to see the difference on the road...

I have done this and it helps so much. After you do the doors the door speakers (even stock) sound so much better. Plus the doors close so much easier and feel more solid. When you do the roof you should peal off the stock insulation deadiner. and stick on the new stuff. Some guys have added a layer of 1/2" insulation foam up there afterwards for more deadining.
This is great just to aliminate road noise but helps a ton with your stereo system.

just drove it... much better... exhaust drone is way down, road noise is less, but still present, of course i am rolling on 35 series rubber, so i will never get rid of it. over all it was worth it. i am really looking forward to knocking out the doors and rear hatch. i will probably wait to do the headliner until after i get my hands on some suede, kill two birds with one stone...
